Full job description

"There is more in you than you think." Kurt Hahn

Our mission is to provide a quality holistic education to all students by providing opportunities for them to be active, knowledgeable, creative, and conscientious individuals. GreenWood inspires a healthy balance in life through healthy eating habits, exercise, personal discovery, service learning, and environmental stewardship.

GreenWood is a free public K-8 charter school focusing on holistic education. GreenWood was chartered to educate students, engage parents and connect with our community to support a culture of healthy habits for our students to grow academically. Our vision is that every GreenWood student will gain an understanding and appreciation for all aspects of their life. Student achievement includes three dimensions: Mastery of Skills and Knowledge, High-quality Work, and Character. To accomplish our vision, GreenWood uses six core HEALTH Values: Healthy Habits, Environmental Stewardship, Achievement, Leadership, Thinking Creatively and Honoring Diversity.

Greenwood partners with EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning), a national school organization. EL partners with schools to improve student achievement through an inquiry and project-based approach. EL schools inspire the motivation to learn, engage teachers and students in new levels of focus and effort, and transform schools into places where students and adults become leaders of their own learning.

Everything that we do at GreenWood Charter School is intended to meet the needs of students in their early elementary years. You must have the ability to develop meaningful connections with students, have strong classroom management skills, and have the skills to create classroom culture in which individuals are valued for what they bring to the group.

You Have:

  • Strong evidence of implementing effective instructional practices that increase student learning
  • Proven ability to contribute to a high-performing team, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively informally and formally with individuals and families of diverse make-up, cultures and communities
  • A commitment to and thirst for continuously improving teaching and school culture through rigorous coaching and professional development
  • A passion for deeper learning that aligns with the core principles of EL Education
  • A Utah teaching certificate in Elementary Education

As part of a team you will:

  • Develop, document, and evaluate curriculum aligned with GreenWood Charter School learning expeditions and curriculum maps
  • Maintain effective instructional practices-utilized to make learning come alive, ensure that all students participate, and use data to modify instruction to ensure differentiated learning
  • Commit to character education fostered through challenging academic work, service, and whole child learning

Effectively supervise any teaching support staff and parent volunteers to support and improve instruction, character development and crew culture for all students

As a crew leader you'll lead a crew, similar to an advisory, of about 25 students. You will be the mentor/advocate for each student in your crew. You'll engage them in team building activities, facilitate social-emotional learning, guide the development of crew and individual goals, and prepare students for student-led-conferences and final Passage presentations.

This position will receive medical benefits, retirement, and paid time off.
