This position is located in Warren, MI.


Lead design and fabrication of lithium ion battery cells in a prototype lab

  • Lead the start-up activities for cell fabrication equipment and processes
  • Conduct daily operations to fabricate high quality electrodes and cells
  • Implement cell fabrication process management processes
  • Document standard operation procedures and safety guidelines for all equipment in the lab
  • Provide in field training for engineers and researchers on fabrication processes
Areas of Responsibility

  • Direct responsibility for electrode coating room (coating, calendaring, slitting, and drying equipment) and equipment; and team leader for mixing room (slurry preparation) and cell assembly room (blanking, stacking, welding, sealing, formation, and resealing equipment)
  • Interact with cell fabrication equipment suppliers to ensure on-time start-up of the fabrication line
  • Prepare process guidelines and track cell fabrication procedure consistently
  • Responsible for material sourcing and evaluation based on team input
  • Produce battery electrodes and cells with high quality processes including, slurry mixing, electrode coating, pressing, and cell assembly processes
  • Develop, optimize and document process windows and quality control process for different cell designs
  • Conduct safe day-to-day operation of the cell fabrication lab
  • Maintain equipment in the cell fabrication lab to ensure optimum operating conditions
  • Train new staff in the lab
  • Prepare timely high quality internal status reports and make presentation as required

Basic Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or process engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with dry/clean room and cell fabrication equipment operations
  • Hands on experience in battery electrode processing and cell assembly process
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with coating equipment
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience of lithium ion battery fabrication processes
  • Strong background in battery testing protocols for EV and HEV applications
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams
  • Good problem solving capability
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Basic Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in chemical or process engineering
  • 5 + years of experience in lithium ion cell fabrication and testing
