Industrial Engineer

Director of Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

Flexible packaging companyseeks an industrial/process engineer to serve as Director of Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills, and have experience in leading quality management systems and continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing operations. Initiative, attention to detail and process analysis, along with the ability to collect, analyze and disseminate data and information to others and implement new initiatives, including process optimization and cost savings is desired. The primary responsibilities of the position include leading the quality management system, evaluating and determining optimal process settings and controls on production lines, leading associate training & certification programs, participating in the leadership and management of regulatory/compliance matters including third-party certifications and Safety/OSHA matters. The candidate must be able to work well with both internal and external customers, associates and suppliers, understand and troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause analysis and recommend and lead implementation of corrective actions and solutions to drive operational efficiencies. A B.S. Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree and/or experience, as well as formal training in Six Sigma and 5-S / Lean principles are preferred. 1) Lead our Quality Management System including establishment, documentation and auditing of compliance with appropriate quality assurance procedures, testing methods and forms to ensure consistent and repeated delivery of the highest quality flexible packaging to our customers.

2) Evaluate and determine optimal process settings and controls on various production lines, including flexographic printing presses, lamination systems and slitting and pouch converting operations to maximize the efficiencies and productivity of our operations, reduce and/or eliminate waste and optimize profitability.
a) Lead process improvement initiatives
b) Train associates on process settings, controls and audit compliance with QMS procedures, test methods and forms

3) Participate in leadership and management of various regulatory and certification programs, including:
a) Regulatory matters/compliance
b) AIB Certification (working w/ Plant Manager)
c) Safe Quality Foods certification and compliance
d) Safety/OSHA related matters (working w/ Plant Manager)

Desired Skills / Qualities / Knowledge / Experience / Characteristics

1) Engineering degree, industrial or mechnical, or equivalent experience

b) Communication - can disseminate data and information and “promote” or “sell” process improvements to associates

5) Sense of urgency in accomplishing tasks
6) Self-starter that takes initiative
7) Some level of exposure or training in the following areas is preferred:
a) Lean manufacturing / 5-S waste elimination training
b) Six Sigma
c) American Institute of Baking (AIB)
