Our Flame Technology Divisions in Gary, IN and Burns Harbor, IN have IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for experienced, heavy industrial, Multi-Craft Maintenance Technicians with at least 2 years equipment maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Technicians are responsible for all preventive maintenance and inspections, greasing, lubrication and emergency repairs of all plant electrical, hydraulic and mechanical components of the Surface Conditioning Plant. Also carries out repairs and inspection of bur less slab cutting and slitting facilities located at Burns Harbor.


Carries out routine inspections of all equipment and lubricants and repairs as necessary

Identifies problem areas and notifies shift foreman and maintenance manager so that corrective action can be taken during weekly maintenance downturn

Sets work priorities in conjunction with shift foreman and maintenance engineering manager in order to maximize plant availability

Keeps accurate records of repairs carried out or required maintenance issues

Advises maintenance manager of parts consumed or repaired. Orders any and all parts consumed and needed by requisition form.

Rebuilds/repairs any and all equipment removed from service

Carries out repairs of equipment removed from key components such as scarfing torches, hydraulic pumps, and cylinders

QUALIFICATIONS (Skills, knowledge, experience):

Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical and electrical components on heavy equipment_

Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical/hydraulic schematics

Knowledge of DC operated cranes essential

Ability to understand and follow safety procedures for working with electrical/mechanical and hydraulic equipment including high voltage

Capable of working unsupervised for long periods of time

Must be prepared to work shifts and overtime as directed

Must be able to work under pressure and perform as a team player

*Minimum of two year’s experience working in a heavy industrial environment*


Lifting up to 75 lbs.

Standing, walking for extended periods of time

Tolerating noise, temperature variations and harsh working environment

Crawling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing

Working at elevated heights

Manipulating components in hard to reach places with hands and tools
