Helper Position

ATI Allegheny Ludlum , an operating company of Allegheny Technologies (NYSE: ATI), manufactures and markets a wide range of flat rolled specialty metals, including stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium and electrical steels to global end use markets such as aerospace, power generation, automotive and housing. We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the Helper position located at our Carol Stream facility. This facility will be moving to Bridgeview, IL in December of 2012.

The Helper position requires employees to assist the Operators on a particular production work center, either a slitting machine or the packaging line. On a slitting machine the Helper:

assists the operator in threading the stainless steel coil through the line

performs changeover duties on the exit end of the machine

creates identification labels via a computer and printer

tapes the ends of the slit mults and applies the identification labels to the slit mults

operates various parts of the slitting line to load master coils and remove slit mults

removes and properly discards the leading end and tail end of the master coil

locates the master coils on a particular job and transports them to the slitting line via a fork truck

removes scrap from the slitting line and discards it in the properly labeled container

cuts cardboard cores per the setup for a particular job and installs the cores on the slitting line

remove the paper interleave rewound coils if necessary.

On the packaging line the Helper:
understands the packaging requirements for a particular order and adheres to the customers’ specifications

removes the slit mults from the turnstile storage and sends them to the coil stacker

bands the coils as needed and stacks the slit mults onto a skid

prepares the skids prior to stacking the coils on them

transport the packaged skids into finished goods inventory.

Other Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of industrial or related experience

Possess a valid driver’s license

Willing to operate and/or maintain a variety of operating units, work shifts, weekends, and overtime in a medium industrial environment

Demonstrated ability to work safely as a team member

Applicants must pass written tests to verify reading & math skills and mechanical aptitude
