Nichols Aluminum, a Quanex Building Products Company, is one of the most efficient and environmentally-friendly aluminum sheet producers in North America. Using specialized blending melting, and continuous casting processes, it produces high quality aluminum sheet from predominantly recycled materials. Our products serve building and construction, transportation, machinery and equipment, consumer durable, and electrical. Nichols Aluminum is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Production Supervisor position in our Lincolnshire, IL location. The Production Supervisor operates under the general supervision of the Production Manager with a dotted line to the Plant Manager. This position is responsible for all shift administration issues as well as training, employee development, counseling, discipline, performance appraisal, assigning and organizing all hourly personnel. Principal accountabilities include, but not limited to: Facilitating the safety program while maintaining a safe and orderly plant. Communicating with the Production Manager of shift performance and any trouble spots that need attention. Inspecting work of others to assure quality of workmanship. Setting shift priorities in order to make adjustments to meet departmental goals. Scheduling overtime consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Communicating, consistent (up to 80%) direct contact, with operators, equipment and processing –maintain presence on the floor. Working closely with Maintenance Personnel to keep all equipment in safe condition and proper repair. Minimizing downtime on equipment. Completing forms or paperwork as needed. Understanding the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Facilitating daily shift Toolbox meetings with emphasis on safety, shift requirements, production, and delivery.The emphasis of this position is to resolve issues including, overtime, discipline, job changes, absenteeism and other traditional management administrative duties. In addition, promote positive decision making by the hourly employees in the areas of safety, quality, day to day interaction and in plant customer satisfaction. Safety is the number one priority.
We are seeking an individual with a passion for safety, is familiar with lean philosophies and has excellent oral and written communications skills; communication is a vital role. The supervisor must be an active participant and team oriented. The individual must be capable of taking direction from several work center managers, possess sound organizational and computer skills. Previous supervisory experience in a metals manufacturing environment preferred along with experience in cold rolling, annealing, leveling and slitting.
