About Us:
The Calumet Area Industrial Commission (CAIC) is a not-for-profit membership organization established in 1967. Formed initially to retain and attract manufacturing and maritime commerce to the south side of Chicago, our mission has since expanded to include employment and training programs. We're now seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team.

General Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial activities across our multiple restricted funding sources, adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and working under the direct supervision of the COO and an external CPA firm.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial management activities for effective planning and reporting.
  • Assist in developing budgets for all grants from federal, state, and city sources.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial information, including vouchers, and the provision of necessary documentation before issuing payments.
  • Post entries to the General Ledger (GL) and the appropriate chart of accounts
  • Strictly adhere to the established Cost Allocation Plan.
  • Follow regulations and guidelines established by GAO, DOL, DCEO, and the City of Chicago.

Other Duties:

  • Assist CPA & COO in preparing monthly financial reports for the Board of Directors & CEO
  • Work regularly with monitors and auditors to review each contract's financial records
  • Bill members for services performed and work with staff to prepare budgets for future agreements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • Experience in federal funding fiscal procedures is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of WIOA/grant management and DOL regulations would be ideal.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide insightful solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, critical for managing financial records and preparing reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and familiarity with other accounting and financial software programs.
  • Prior experience in the financial industry is a plus.
