Position Scope:

The Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC is the largest economic development, chamber of commerce, and business advocacy organization in southern Colorado. We work with industry leaders, educational institutions, military personnel, government, and community agencies and a wide array of community professionals dedicated to developing economic prosperity for our region.

An associate assists with management of projects and programs supervised by others. The Accounting Associate provides direct support to the Controller and Accounting Specialist on a variety of financial and accounting duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Sends out monthly membership invoices, verifies information and maintains accounts receivable reports including but not limited to monthly sales, open invoices, and aging reports.
  • Receives checks and prepares deposit slips; records and verifies remittances against business accounts; deposits checks daily.
  • Guides and supervises complaint resolutions; verifies customer satisfaction through verbal and written communication. Assists members with account questions; works will membership department to resolve issues as needed.
  • Ensures timely and accurate processing of accounts payable; assists accounting specialist with receiving, verifying, and posting accounts payable invoices into accounting system.
  • Interacts with vendors and department managers when processing a resolution of account discrepancies.
  • Receives and reviews purchase orders, check requests, and/or other related documentation for completeness and compliance with financial policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Assists accounting specialist with receiving credit card receipts and reconciling against corporate credit cards on a monthly basis.
  • Follows up on account statements and other discrepancies regarding payment of accounts; serves as liaison between departments and vendors in the resolution of administrative problems and inquiries.
  • Assists accounting specialist with reviewing, auditing, and processing employee expense reimbursements; verifies accuracy of expenses and adherence to company policies
  • Maintains accounting department files and records.
  • Enters information into accounting data entry system and CRM.
  • Assists with month-end close and runs monthly reports as required.
  • Performs general clerical duties including but not limited to filing, photocopying, faxing, typing, and mailing.
  • Assists with special accounting projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school, six months to one-year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Accurately keystroke a minimum of 50 wpm.
  • 10-key by touch.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Proficient on Excel and Word with aptitude for learning new software programs. Experience with QuickBooks preferred but not required.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language used in the workplace.
