Adamah Studio Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Adamah Studios Manager provides support to the Adamah Program Director of Bethel Horizons in managing all aspects of the Adamah Studios while supporting Bethel Horizons mission to foster a better understanding of God, Self, Others and Nature. Ceramics knowledge is a requirement!
AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Adamah Studios Manager is accountable to the Adamah Program Director for the quality and delivery of work produced. The Adamah Studios Manager will work with other camp staff as needed for various tasks.
HOURS
PART-TIME/FULL-TIME: Part-Time LOCATION: Adamah Art Studios – Dodgeville, WI
HOURS PER WEEK: 30
COMPENSATION: Commensurate with education and experience
ABOUT ADAMAH PROGRAMS: Adamah is an adult education center that focuses on providing enriching adult programs in the arts, environmental and other specialities. The campus consists of a year round art studio, an Anagama Wood Kiln and retreat facilities with dining area, meeting area and lodging. We offer top notch facilities and well known instructors on a variety of topics. Our programs offer opportunities for beginners to advanced levels for these topics. Our educational workshops are open to all! We also can offer specialized programs for retreats as requested and available.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Studios and Kilns
- Maintain supplies and equipment at the Adamah Clay Studio
- Pugging clay as needed
- Cleaning as needed
- Making sure wheels, electric and gas kiln are in working order
- Mix glazes
- Maintain material inventory
Managing Adamah Mixed-Media Studio
- Cleaning as needed
- Setting up for various media workshops and programs
- Making sure all equipment is in working order
Managing Anagama Kiln
- Coordinating wood delivery and sawing
- Keeping Anagama and other wood fire kilns in operational order
- Cleaning as necessary
Managing Scotties Summer Studio
- Keeping studio area clean and available for summer months
Workshop Support
- Making sure guest instructors are oriented to the studio and have what is needed to teach their class with support from Adamah Program Director
- Troubleshoot issues during workshops with support from Adamah Program Director
- Assist Director with collecting content (photos, videos, participant stories) during active workshops
- Run the pizza oven once a week during active workshops
- Run studio laundry
- Supervise studio interns with assistance of the Adamah Program Director.
- Provide educational experiences and hands on experiences to interns
Classes and Rentals
- Teach Adamah day/evening classes (up to 10 hours of teaching time per week during off-season)
- Host Open Studio
- Coordinate electric and gas kiln rentals and update Google calendar
- Keep Adamah Program Director informed on any needed supplies or equipment repairs
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Willingness to work in an environment committed to bringing others closer to the harmonies of God, Self, Others and Nature.
- Experience working and managing an art studio is required
- Strong organization skills
- Able to work with difficult people in a positive manner
- Demonstrates a high level of quality customer service at all levels of interaction
- Comfortable teaching ceramics and mixed-media art
- Knowledge of clay, glaze, and kiln fundamentals
- Experience running electric and gas kilns
- 1 year studio management experience or a bachelor’s degree in Ceramics or related field experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT and Job Specifications
- Primarily perform work in a studio, camp and retreat center environment
- Frequently move around the studios, retreat centers and access or use computers, office equipment, telephone, and any other pertinent supplies, space or equipment used to perform the duties of the position.
- Must have weekend availability and work under flexible scheduling conditions
- Work with frequent interruption.
- Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
ABOUT BETHEL HORIZONS
Bethel Horizons is a year-round facility located on more than 548 acres of prairie, forests, wetlands, and valleys bordering Governor Dodge State Park. Through its outdoor summer camp (The population that we serve for summer camp comes from a diverse set of socio-economic backgrounds), retreat and event center, adventure courses, nature experiences, and art education campus, it endeavors to develop and perpetuate a physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual environment which will strengthen and enhance the understanding of a person’s relation to God, Self, Others, and Nature. Horizons is affiliated with Bethel Lutheran Church-ELCA, Madison, Wisconsin, and accredited by the American Camp Association. It is a member of Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, an association of ELCA camps nationwide.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
