About us
Position Overview: In this customer-oriented role Adoption Counselors guide adopters through the adoption process to help match them with the companion animal of their dreams. The Adoption Counselor works proactively to find homes for adoptable animals, reunite stray dogs with their owners, and generally be a resource for those who contact CCHS looking for assistance. The Adoption Counselor will perform other duties and responsibilities as needed in our team-oriented culture.
Key Responsibilities:
· Adopting companions into homes from the Adoption Center and from offsite locations
· Welcoming visitors and responding to phone calls
· Accurately completing and reviewing paperwork; including but not limited to; adoptions, surrenders, euthanasia, etc.
· Working with your head and not just your heart
· Transporting dogs and cats between adoption locations and to events when needed
· Helping the public in whatever way possible when they call CCHS for assistance
· Complete daily and weekly to do lists, as time permits
· Assist with animal intakes/surrenders as needed
· Properly handle animals and understand animal body language and their warning signs
· Complete tasks fully and correctly
· Work efficiently
· Ask community members difficult questions to understand their needs and determine the right animal fit
· Remain professional and composed during difficult situations and discussions
· Know when to ask for guidance and assistance
· Schedule appointments appropriately and according to CCHS availability
· Treat all individuals with dignity and respect
· Understand how to give medications to animals as directed in emergency situations
· Remain objective and be forthcoming with adopters on animal’s limitations, special needs, behaviors, etc.
· Follow defined protocols, policies, and procedures
· Follow safety measures to keep animals and individuals out of harm’s way at all times
· Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications - Required
· Experience and comfort working with all types and sizes of domesticated animals
· Excellent customer service and time management skills
· Computer competency
· Strong communication skills including the ability to speak clearly and listen effectively
· Ability to use good judgment in decision-making and solution-finding
· Ability to be responsible and accountable for role and oneself
· Ability to work both independently and with a team
· The consistent use of understanding, empathy, care, patience, and good will in working with diverse people
· A valid driver’s license is required and one must be of the physical condition needed to perform the responsibilities of the position including walking, lifting, standing, bending
Qualification - Preferred
· Bilingual – Spanish
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
