After-School Teacher

The After-School Teacher prepares and provides in-person academic enrichment instruction and social/emotional development activities to elementary and middle school students in one of nine EBAYC After-School Learning programs. We are looking for passionate and mission-driven youth development practitioners who love to work with early elementary grade children (Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade), intermediate elementary grade children (3rd through 5th grades), and middle school students (6th through 8th grades).

Core Responsibilities

1. Facilitate students’ academic and social development through their daily participation and engagement in the EBAYC After-School Learning program.

2. Plan, prepare, and implement project-based learning curriculum and activities that foster creative expression, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making.

3. Plan, prepare, and implement curriculum and activities that foster students’ literacy development.

4. Plan, prepare, and organize community building activities.

5. Plan, prepare, and organize family learning nights.

6. Maintain on-going communication and collaboration with parents and teachers.

7. Integrate the participation of assigned high school teaching interns and/or U.C. Berkeley student volunteers.

8. Collect and submit all required student-level registration, attendance, and survey data.

9. Participate in all EBAYC After-School Learning Team meetings and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 48 College semester units or passage of the Alameda County Of Education Instructional Aide Examination.

2. Negative Result on tuberculosis test.

3. LiveScan background clearance.

4. Ability to manage and support a class of up to 20 students.

5. Ability to plan and prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction.

6. Ability to communicate effectively with parents and teachers.

7. Knowledge of and commitment to working in and building a culturally-responsive, trauma-informed, healing-centered youth and family service organization.

8. Knowledge of and commitment to EBAYC’s vision, mission, and theory-of-change.

9. Fluency in Mam, Spanish, Cantonese or Vietnamese is desirable, but not required.

Work Schedule: 5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 1:00pm to 6:00pm
(some positions at each program may be 8 hours per day)

Work Period: 200 work days from Friday, July 19, 2024 through Friday, May 30, 2025, excluding school holidays.

Compensation: $23 to $25 per hour

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
