Job Title: Agriculture Education Programs Coordinator Department: Administration

Reports to: General Manager Effective Date: 5/18/26

Job Summary:

The Maryland State Fair & Agricultural Society, Inc. is seeking an Agriculture Education Programs Coordinator to assist in planning and delivering agricultural education programs during the annual Fair and throughout the year. The Coordinator ensures that agricultural education programs run smoothly, remain engaging, and reflect the Fair’s commitment to promoting agricultural literacy. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, clear and professional communication, and an interest in agriculture, youth development, and community education. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working with diverse groups, and is motivated by the opportunity to support programs that connect the public with agriculture.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may vary seasonally based on Fair operations and programming priorities.

· Create meaningful, high-quality agricultural education learning experiences for exhibitors, participants and visitors. This includes the planning, coordination and delivery of all initiatives at the Fair and year-round.

· Assist with coordination logistics and supporting the daily operation of education areas including ULearn Farm, ULearn Barn, Horseland, Nature Playspace and the Birthing Center

· Support and help expand the Fair’s agriculture education outreach programs outside of the Fair including school programs, library partnerships and others

· Coordinate logistics for 4-H, FFA, and open class educational exhibits and activities

· Assist with development and updates of exhibitor guides, schedules, and educational materials

· Work with extension agents, volunteers, and superintendents to support youth and open class programming

· Help coordinate judges, awards, ribbons, and trophies for livestock and educational competitions

· Provide on-site support during events to ensure a positive experience for all participants

· Assist in development of new educational programs and experiences, including utilization of new facilities

· Maintain and update exhibitor communications, including social media and digital platforms

· Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Communications, Event Management, or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during peak Fair operations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse groups including staff, volunteers, exhibitors, and partners
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Customer service–oriented mindset with a positive, professional demeanor
  • Ability to coordinate logistics and support event execution effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic digital tools
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and problem-solve in real time
  • Basic knowledge of agriculture, livestock, or youth programs (e.g., 4-H/FFA) or willingness to learn
  • Strong time management skills and reliability in meeting deadlines
  • Experience with 4-H, FFA, or similar youth agricultural programs
  • Familiarity with livestock shows, fairs, or agricultural events
  • Previous experience coordinating events, programs, or educational activities
  • Experience working with volunteers or seasonal staff
  • Basic knowledge of livestock handling, agricultural practices, or competition structures
  • Experience with social media management or digital communications
  • Ability to create or assist with educational content, exhibits, or programming
  • Interest in agricultural education and community engagement initiatives

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Work schedules will vary seasonally, with significant hours and weekend responsibilities during the annual Maryland State Fair and major events.

Ability to move around the fairgrounds, which may involve walking, standing, and navigating various terrains for extended periods.

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
