The Hancock County Assessor’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Clerk.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Deputy ClerkDepartment: Assessor’s OfficeReports to: Assessor

SUMMARY:

The Hancock County Assessor’s Office will be accepting applications for a full time Deputy Clerk. Duties will include processing deeds and other documents related to property transfers. Also, computer input to the property assessment system, assisting taxpayers and answering phones.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works indoor in a climate- controlled environment. The employee may on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Input data into the property assessment system.
  • Assisting taxpayers with property queries.
  • May assist other departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, GENERAL ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Familiarity with deeds and property transfers is required.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a welcoming, friendly, and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to work with senior leadership assuring they are apprised of situations to avoid surprises.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate person(s).

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Ability to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

LICENSE:

  • Valid Driver's License.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to register to vote.
  • Must pass drug tests.
