Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director for Children, Youth and Family (CYF) Ministries

Reports to: Director for CYF Ministries

Effective Start Date: Immediately

Hours: Part time position (20-30 hours per week) including Sunday mornings, with the potential to grow to full time. Schedule varies seasonally, including Wednesday evenings during the school year. 1-2 overnight youth trips per year.

Summary: The Assistant Director for CYF Ministries develops and implements ministry programming and events in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, the Director for CYF Ministries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following)

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, evaluation and continual improvement of CYF ministry programs, including curricula, service projects, fellowship and other activities.
  • Develop relationships with children and youth, parents and volunteers, and foster a welcoming atmosphere of belonging and fellowship.
  • Facilitate and strengthen FCUCC’s CYF ministries to help participants embrace a deep and sustainable Christian faith.
  • Possess a heart for shepherding and encourage youth in their faith and personal journeys; display a strong personal commitment to faith.
  • Help coordinate, develop and supervise volunteers.
  • Foster student leadership in the CYF ministry.
  • Lead or co-lead one or two summer trips with the CYF Director, including overnights and/or weekends.
  • Teach one session of Children’s Ministry lessons on Sunday mornings and lead one of the Wednesday evening Youth Groups (Middle School or High School).
  • Collaboratively develop and communicate CYF ministry events and opportunities.
  • Build relationships with the entire staff of FCUCC, seeking to work collaboratively and supportively with our larger church’s mission, values and intergenerational focus. Serve as a key voice and advocate for the CYF ministry in an interdisciplinary, collegial environment, including during staff meetings.
  • Help manage inventory of ministry supplies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, including Bible or theology classes or other religious training.
  • Have a desire for life-long learning and a willingness to grow in their understanding of children and in the values of the United Church of Christ.
  • Understand developmentally appropriate expectations for, and interests of, children and youth.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth in ministry, education or a related field preferred.
  • Display strong administrative, planning, organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other applicable computer programs and office equipment.
  • Must exhibit a faith and possess values supportive of the United Church of Christ and FCUCC.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and time management skills.
  • Display sound judgment, a positive attitude and professional conduct, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Offer of employment contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment background check.

Compensation

  • $20-23/hour based upon qualifications and experience.

Physical Functions:

  • Ability to use staircases, walk, sit, bend and lift twenty pounds.
