About Nine Lives Foundation
Nine Lives Foundation is a nonprofit organization that rescues at-risk cats, provides them with life-saving medical care, and finds them loving, permanent homes. We also operate a high-quality, high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinic. Powered by a passionate team of staff and volunteers, we believe every cat deserves a second chance. Position Overview
The Assistant Social Media + Marketing Manager will help elevate Nine Lives’ digital voice and visibility. Reporting to the Director of Development and Executive Director, this role will lead content creation and digital engagement that strengthens community connection, donor loyalty, and public awareness of our programs and impact.
Position Details
Part-Time | 10–12 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $28–$34, depending on experience
Location and Availability: Remote-friendly, with in-person visits required to our Redwood City locations for content capture.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Creation
- Develop and schedule compelling content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and NextDoor
- Create and edit campaign and short-form videos, and ensure consistent brand tone and visual messaging across platforms
- Capture and curate stories, photography, and video of our cats, volunteers, donors, and staff

Fundraising Campaign Support
- Coordinate with the Development team to align social media with email and direct mail campaigns
- Develop creative strategies to boost visibility, engagement, and giving
Community Engagement
- Monitor and respond to comments and messages with warmth and professionalism
- Foster a vibrant online community that inspires donations, adoptions, to utilize services and grow volunteering
- Partner with influencers and local advocates to expand mission awareness and inspire peer-to-peer fundraising
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Development, Medical, and Program teams to plan and capture engaging stories, visuals, and updates for content creation
Analytics & Optimization
- Track engagement, growth, and campaign effectiveness
- Report monthly on performance metrics and recommend improvements
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of social media experience with a nonprofit or mission-driven brand
- Has extensive success in growing social media following
- Proven success in digital storytelling, content performance, and community engagement
- Strong writing, editing, and visual content creation skills
- Proficiency with Canva, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Instagram Reels/TikTok, and basic video editing
- Warm, creative, and detail-oriented
Bonus
- Experience in an animal shelter or rescue environment
- Deep love of cats and commitment to animal welfare
- Has experience with Premier Pro, Canva, Illustrator and other editing and media software.
