Visitor Experience Assistant Manager
Summary: The Visitor Experience Assistant Manager (VEAM) is responsible for serving as MOD when the VEM is not available (must be available on weekends, holidays, and for after hours events); overseeing and managing VET staff when needed; assisting with scheduling and various other duties as needed. This is a fulltime position, minimum of 40 hours per week, and the schedule will include weekends.
Reports to: Visitor Experience Manager
Major Duties
General:
- Creates, verifies and prints all paper daily schedules for Visitor Experience Specialist staff
- Schedules onboarding training for new staff
- Collaborates with Education department to ensure staff are trained in all areas of their position
- Assists with training new staff and volunteers as needed per checklist packet
- Assists in the oversight of Visitor Experience Specialists during hours of operations and special events
- Monitors staff coverage and performance for both exhibits and point of sales stations (POS)
- Ensures all Visitor Experience Specialists are scheduled and take breaks on time
- Communicates to the Visitor Experience Manager (VEM) any scheduling needs/changes
- Assists with scheduling and assignments for Volunteers as needed
- Assigns staff to perform daily sanitizing of exhibit items and ensures quality and timeliness of task
- Helps maintain the cleanliness and organization of all sanitization spaces
- Maintains a daily exhibit cleaning schedule for Visitor Experience Specialists.
- Monitors quality of cleaning and mentors staff as needed
- Covers exhibits and POS stations as needed
- Assists VEM with birthday party bookings, set up, hosting, and teardown. Ensures all supplies are ordered for upcoming parties.
- Ensure all exhibits are properly set with loose parts and/or consumables at the beginning and end of each day
- Monitors exhibit areas for maintenance concerns and issues, and reports exhibit needs to VEM or Exhibits Manager
- Be the first line of communication for visitor needs
- Effectively work with and communicate efficiently with other staff and management
- Provide feedback to VEM regarding museum visitor experience daily, and suggest/implement adjustments
- Serve as MOD on scheduled days
- Work with VEM to ensure MOD coverage on all visitor days
- Assist with supervising of all Visitor Experience Specialists
- Handle all visitor concerns and supports staff to resolve any issues
- Complete incident reports with MOD as necessary
- Complete cash pulls from front desk drawers once a week and keeps track of cash log. Takes the deposit to the Bank when needed.
- Monitor pop ups and story times to ensure completion each day
- Handle any disciplinary needs with the VETs, as they arise, with unbiased professionalism
- Other duties as needed or assigned
- Maintain a high level of teamwork and collaboration among departmental staff and all other staff
- Constantly evaluate the outcomes and experiences within the exhibit spaces and implement new strategies and techniques to address desired results essential to the Museum’s mission
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to the mission and vision of CMON
- Salesforce and non-profit museum experience preferred
- Management experience preferred
- Spanish-speaking preferred
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
- Strong organizational and time-management skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn new software system to provide reports as needed
- Ability and desire to interact with staff, volunteers, general public and donors in a positive manner
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work well with others using a professional manner
- Able lift up to 25 lbs, bend, reach, and stretch without assistance
- Must pass a background check and be fingerprinted.
