Business Litigation Associate Attorney- 100% Remote

· Tired of the grind and endless hours working for a large firm?

· Wish you had better work/life balance?

· Do you work well remotely but currently don’t have that opportunity?

· Are you a self-starter, love litigation and wish you had fewer meetings so you could just practice law and serve your clients?

Our client, a small law firm in Northern Virginia, is looking to add an attorney to their team. This role would be ideal for someone looking for independence and flexibility in their legal career. Outside of mandated court appearances, the position is 100% remote!

Job responsibilities include:

· Conduct legal research, prepare for and attend hearings and/or other legal proceedings, and provide legal counsel with the help of senior attorneys.

· Handle business litigation cases independently with ability to analyze solutions and move cases forward.

· Collaborate with clients and other staff to move cases toward resolution efficiently.

· Prepare correspondence and legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, motions, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings.

· Manage multiple deadlines proactively.

· Review client issues on legal matters, analyze available options, and diligently work to determine the best course of action.

Aside from the technical requirements, here is how you naturally work:

· You tend to research in depth.

· You are a self-starter; you do not wait to be told what to do. Instead you research, and bring questions concisely along with solutions to your colleagues.

· You maintain order, follow processes and identify inconsistencies.

· You navigate uncertainty rather well.

· You have a sense of urgency and extreme ownership of your files/cases.

· You don’t need a lot of office chit chat; you are very focused on serving clients well and efficiently.

· You meet deadlines but can flex to changing priorities or last minute requests.

· You are able to think and respond on your feet and do it with ease.

· You love the details and thrive on having multiple balls in the air at once.

· Quality matters to you in every client interaction- both in writing and in person.

The technology used includes: Zoom; Office 365: Word, Outlook, Excel, One Drive, Teams and SharePoint; Adobe; and Clio.

This is a position where you can truly just be a practicing attorney. There is not much administrative time or office ‘chit chat’ and you will have a Legal Assistant. You will not be overburdened with a ton of meetings, outside of daily team check in’s (5-10 minutes), weekly case review (1 hour) and a monthly virtual luncheon.

Benefits include:

· Fully remote

· Unlimited PTO

· Health insurance

· Paid malpractice insurance, professional membership fees, and CLE fees

Qualifications needed include:

· You have been there, done that, and have excellent research and writing skills.

· Virginia state court litigation experience is a must. Federal court litigation experience even better!

· You can litigate a case in a Virginia court with minimal oversight, outside of case analysis and check-ins.

· You essentially can be handed multiple files and run with them.

· You proactively schedule case review meetings and prepare the agenda ahead of time.

· 3-6 years’ related litigation experience, preferably in a medium to large firm, as only @ 20% of cases are transactional in nature. So, you have to be good at all the moving parts and pieces included with litigation.

· JD from accredited school of law

· Member of the Virginia bar in good standing; DC and/or MD bar license(s) a plus!

· Strong writing skills

· Effective communication skills and problem-solving skills

· Must be able and willing to travel for occasional court appearances/depositions and litigate business cases

Compensation: $85,000 – $125,000 depending on experience for full-time position

A few other things you should know:

· Standard hours are 9:30 am – 5:30 pm, but there is flexibility!

· They do not have a set number of billable hours; rather they focus on finding the right, timely solutions to their clients’ problems and providing stellar, responsive and timely communication in order to get a positive outcome for clients.

· You will have legal assistant support- full time!

· They want you to just be an attorney and do what you do best to serve their clients well!
