Job Description: Associate Scientist/Chemist
General Job Summary:
Conducts production, testing, and inspection of chemical products and related materials for applications in the aerospace, biomedical, and electronics industry. Candidate should be detail-oriented with ability to follow directions, work independently, and be highly motivated.
NeXolve specializes in the development of high performance, high value polymers and composite materials for aerospace, biomedical, and electronics applications. Emphasis for this position is on mechanical part integration, small-scale production processes, product prep and shipping, and general chemistry lab functions.
Essential Job Functions:
- Mechanical part assembly of thin-film structures and layups for product development and delivery.
- Sample and large-scale productions of chemical products for testing, development, and product fulfillment.
- Perform an array of production processes including pilot-level syntheses, polymer purification, and resin formulation.
- Utilize a microscope for inspection and cleaning of small mechanical components with hand tools.
- Receive daily work assignments from program managers and execute in an efficient and timely manner.
- Record detailed notes of chemical production steps and test results.
- Prepare materials and products for shipment to customer.
- Chemical reaction setup and cleanup.
Secondary Job Functions:
- Polymer material characterization
- Analytical instrumentation operation
- Basic stoichiometry calculations
- Shipping/receiving of materials
- Other duties as assigned - dependent on employee skill level and familiarity
Work Environment:
The employee will be placed in an office and laboratory setting. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/laboratory situation. Able to work sitting or standing at desk and operate a computer via standard input devices such as using a keyboard and reading information on a monitor. Viewing items through a microscope on a regular basis.
Required Experience and Job Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a chemistry-related discipline is desired, though some level of completed college classes in a chemistry-related field is acceptable.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
· Mechanically inclined and hands-on is desired
· Experience with safe handling of organic polymers and solvents is desired
· Experience with lab safety practices is desired

- Good analytical and conceptual thinking
- Problem solving skills
- Basic chemistry understanding
- Integrity & understanding of the scientific process
Education:
· A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field is desired but not a requirement.
· Some level of successful college course work in chemistry or related field is acceptable for consideration.
