Automation Controls Engineer

The Automation Controls Engineer will design, develop, and implement control systems for custom automated equipment. Reporting to the Automation Engineering Leads and the Engineering Manager, this role requires strong technical expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, and robotics systems, including Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). The ideal candidate should thrive in solving complex automation challenges, ensuring projects are executed according to scope, quality, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Protect and cultivate our collaborative work culture, promoting teamwork, trust, and open communication among all team members.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and program control systems for custom automation projects.
  • Lead the development and programming of PLC and HMI systems to interface with robotics, AMRs, and other automated machinery.
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with safety standards and internal quality requirements.
  • Ensure control systems meet internal and client specifications, safety requirements (NEC, NFPA, OSHA), and quality standards​.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues to optimize efficiency and ensure smooth operations.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of automation processes and systems​.
  • Collaborate with the engineering and assembly team to ensure successful system deployment and integration​.
  • Provide on-site support for commissioning and installation phases.
  • Stay updated on the latest automation trends, including advancements in both robotics traditional and AMR technologies, and apply these insights to new projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, with exposure to both traditional robotics and AMR technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs, HMIs, and working with leading automation platforms such as Siemens and Allen-Bradley.
  • Knowledge of safety standards related to automation, including NEC and NFPA codes.
  • Experience with robot programming (e.g., FANUC, KUKA) and AMR fleet management systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (Up to 25%, domestic and international) to client sites for project installation and commissioning phases.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regular site travel.
