Overview
The Stables at Millican Reserve in College Station, Texas is seeking a hands-on Barn Manager to oversee daily barn operations, horse health and safety, staff scheduling, boarder communication, vendor coordination, and support for equestrian programming at our boutique boarding facility. This is an on-site part-time role estimated at 30 hours per week.
About the role
The Stables at Millican Reserve is a boutique equestrian facility within the Millican Reserve community in College Station, Texas. The operation includes full-care horse boarding, riding instruction and equestrian activities, and several residential apartments located on-site.
We are seeking a part-time, hands-on Barn Manager to oversee the health, safety, organization, and day-to-day success of the Stables. This role includes horse-care oversight, staff supervision, scheduling, boarder and tenant communication, vendor coordination, and basic administrative management. The Barn Manager is supported by a Lead Feeder and daily Feeders.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee horse health, safety, nutrition, and daily care
- Monitor horses for changes in condition and coordinate veterinary and farrier care as needed
- Oversee daily barn operations, including feeding, turnout, mucking, and general routines
- Supervise, schedule, and support feeders and other barn staff
- Maintain strong, professional communication with boarders and prospective boarders
- Coordinate vendors, supplies, service providers, and maintenance needs
- Oversee day-to-day management of three on-site residential apartments
- Support equestrian programming, including lessons, trail rides, and related activities
- Maintain organized records, schedules, and operational systems
- Serve as the primary on-site manager for Stables operations
Qualifications
- Meaningful hands-on equestrian and barn management experience
- Strong horse-care judgment and comfort recognizing health and safety issues
- Experience supervising staff and managing schedules
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Comfort with basic administrative tasks and technology
- Ability to perform physical duties and work outdoors in varying weather
- Availability at least 30 hours per week, including regular weekday presence and routine alternate weekend coverage as needed
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and cell phone required
Compensation
- $34,000–$38,000 annually, based on experience, availability, and qualifications
- Additional incentive compensation may be available
- Lesson compensation may be available to qualified instructors
- Eligible employees may receive available PTO/holiday and medical/dental benefits
- Mileage reimbursement for approved business use
