Full job description

Behavior Health Counselor
Job Description: With the supervision of a QMHP, provide counseling and case management services to individuals with mental health challenges at the LCHD.

Illustrative Examples of Work:

  • Maintains a counseling caseload which includes individual and group;
  • Completes assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan activities;
  • Utilizes acceptable clinical techniques to effect client change according to goals/objectives of client;
  • Required to meet productivity goals outlines by Director;
  • Completes assessments, diagnosis and treatment planning activities;
  • Participates in interdisciplinary clinical staff meetings;
  • Provides individual therapy as assigned by Director;
  • Works jointly with other disciplines to arrange services and/or referrals beyond his/her scope;
  • Attends necessary training events in order to obtain/maintain professional; certification/licensure;
  • Conducts work under the supervision of QMHP;
  • Complete all paperwork/documentation within 48 hours.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field
  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Social Worker, preferred
  • Meets the requirements for Mental Health Professional according to Rule 132

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Requires demonstrated ability to work constructively with clients, other providers and the community
  • Requires basis knowledge of psychotropic medication and side effects
  • Requires knowledge of substance abuse and treatment thereof
  • Requires knowledge of community resources for referral purposes
  • Requires understanding and ability to put into practice the Mental Health Code and Confidentiality Act.
  • Requires understanding and ability to put into practice applicable agency policies and procedures.
