Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Domestic Violence Program Manager, the Behavioral Health Advocate will leverage knowledge of trauma-informed best practices while serving Shawnee citizens and others who may present with a range of issues and behaviors. The Behavioral Health Advocate will provide intake, referral, behavioral health advocacy, and safety planning services for clients who have experienced issues such as domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, rape, stalking, sex-trafficking, and other similar crimes. This may include on-call duties in order to meet potential clients at the point of crisis in order to provide immediate care and referral services, as well as long-term behavioral health focused case management. The Behavioral Health Advocate works collaboratively with other mental health, crime advocate, domestic violence, and sexual assault resource centers and agencies to ensure seamless response to client needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs program and grant required activities and responsibilities as required.
- Assists the Domestic Violence Program Manager in planning and implementing various grant and tribal programs in accordance with federal regulations and program policies, procedures and requirements.
- Accomplishes clients’ care by assessing treatment and resource needs; developing, monitoring, and evaluating treatment plans and progress under the direction of the Domestic Violence Program Manager; facilitates interdisciplinary approaches.
- Admits new clients by reviewing records and applications, conducting orientations.
- Monitors cases by verifying clients’ attendance; advocating for needed services and entitlements; obtaining additional resources; intervening in crises; providing personal support.
- Maintains clients’ records by reviewing case notes, logging events and progress.
- Communicates clients’ progress by conducting weekly interdisciplinary meetings and evaluations; disseminating results and obstacles to therapeutic team and family; identifying treatment influences.
- Assists Domestic Violence Program Manager with developing program policies and procedures.
- Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing data, compiling statistics, and other data tracking and management duties as assigned.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Conduct community outreach and education that is culturally-relevant and addresses behavioral health topics related to domestic violence, victims of crime, sexual assault, stalking, rape, and sex-trafficking.
- Works with victims of crime and domestic violence to address needs and goals as directed by the client.
- Network with other providers to help clients access community resources.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
- Desire to provide culturally-relevant care to Shawnee Citizen clients and other area tribal clients.
- Experience serving individuals exposed to traumatic issues such as crime and domestic violence.
- Proficiency in English
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, or related field -OR-
- Combination of two years of academic study in human services, social work, or related field plus two years of experience working with victims of crime, domestic violence, sex- trafficking, rape, assault, stalking, and other forms of physical, emotional, or sexual trauma.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding clientele issues, information, and other HIPAA-protected identifiers.
- Ability to navigate and handle complicated situations.
- Ability to comprehend complex requirements of multiple funding sources and to allocate time and services appropriately to ensure allowability of all activities under each funding source.
- Desire to empower individuals and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds and to work with the complex symptoms and issues related to intergenerational trauma.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Case Management certification, or an open desire to become CM-II certified.
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related field preferred.
- Passion for serving others and promoting and modeling healing, wholeness, and wellbeing.
- Comfortable with public speaking, community education, and culturally-relevant outreach.
- Knowledge of the following terms: posttraumatic stress disorder, intergenerational trauma, intimate partner violence, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience working with indigenous peoples, Native American Tribes, or Native American communities.
- Skilled in maintaining a high level of discipline and morale throughout the Tribe.
- Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
- Ability to cultivate and foster positive working relationships with cultural leaders, indigenous peoples, Native American communities.
Additional Requirements:
- Successfully pass pre-employment Drug Screen and adhere to a Random Drug Screen policy.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License, have proof of Liability Insurance and be insurable.
- Maintain any training and credential requirements as per policy and procedure.
- Successfully pass Criminal Background Checks.
