JOB SUMMARY
The Campus Minister is a practicing Roman Catholic woman or man who is in good standing with the Church. He or she is an organized self-starter who is capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and can be flexible in arising to new challenges. He or she will represent the Chaplain by overseeing all campus ministry activities and groups at St. Stephen’s and the colleges its serves, in coordination and collaboration with the Catholic Student Associations at each campus and the local FOCUS Missionary Team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support and develop student leadership at St. Stephen’s and on campus at UAB and Samford University. (Possibility of a successor institution at the former Birmingham-Southern, also.)
- ==> Attend and advise student leadership meetings at UAB / Samford.
- ==> Invite and empower students to take on responsibilities within campus ministry.
- ==> Work with student leaders as individuals and as teams, leading them to grow in virtue and in organizational success.
- Create community through communication
- ==> Meet weekly with Chaplain to discuss the current state, priorities, and plans for campus ministry.
- ==> Call and email students, donors, and parents to cultivate stewardship and participation in campus ministry.
- ==> Create written and visual content for publication; manage social media accounts.
- ==> Represent St. Stephen’s at orientation, FOCUS NST, after Mass, and on campus.
- Provide and develop programming in collaboration with others
- ==> Empower students to develop and run campus ministry programs such as retreats, speaker events, small groups, and service projects.
- ==> ==> Manage campus ministry calendar and budget; coordinate and supervise major events such as conferences, mission trips, and pilgrimages (e.g. SEEK, March for Life, etc.)
- ==> Network with university / parish / diocesan staff. Work closely with FOCUS missionaries to create a “united front” in ministry to students.
- ==> Plan and coordinate weekly student meals, snacks, and other opportunities for gathering.
- Pray for and with our students
- ==> Model and encourage love for Christ in the Eucharist, frequent participation in the Sacraments, and intercessory prayer with and for students.
- Maintain a positive environment for students
- ==> Ensure that the Student Lounge and other shared spaces are neat and orderly.
- ==> Assist students in resolving interpersonal conflicts and in finding resources to meet their spiritual needs; moderate social media (e.g. GroupMe, Flare, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).
- ==> Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree and prior Campus Ministry experience preferred.
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/WORK AIDS: Personal computer, calculator, photocopier, multi-line telephone system.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must be able to type proficiently. Must be proficient in Canva or a similar graphic design program, must be proficient in MS Office Products, especially Excel and Word. Must have good writing and communications skills. Must be able to manage a website, create web surveys, run a newsletter distribution list (Constant Contact, MailChimp, or similar), and manage email accounts. Must be proficient and experienced in the use of Facebook, Instagram, GroupMe, Flare, and other social media platforms.
PERSONAL TRAITS, QUALITIES, AND APTITUDES: Must be organized, friendly and enjoy working with others. Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 35 per week
