As a vital member of our Operations & Transportation Team, the CDL A Driver is a critical contributor to furthering the mission of AFFB. Our drivers are true heroes as they pick up and deliver fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food items from designated suppliers for delivery to the AFFB warehouse or as they deliver through scheduled agency and program orders and mobile distribution sites throughout Sarasota and DeSoto counties. As an AFFB driver, all aspects of warehouse and food safety and product care must be followed to include receiving, storing, and distributing food products. In addition, assumes direct responsibility for ensuring the operation of a clean, safe, and well-maintained vehicle. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team member who will display passion and optimism for the work, provide inspiration and exemplify AFFB core values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loading and unloading trucks for daily food pickups and distribution
- Work with the Distribution Manager to ensure that fresh and non-perishable food items, donated and/or purchased, are available for all scheduled distributions
- Complete all required paperwork accurately for orders, distributions, pickups and/or deliveries
- Transport food at retail or produce centers for delivery to AFFB warehouse and agency drops
- Mobile Food Market distributions
- Safely drive an assigned vehicle to distribute food items directly to clients at defined locations and according to a pre-determined schedule
- Conduct daily pre/post trip checks and services on assigned vehicles and equipment
- Successfully receive ServSafe training and certification inhouse
- Remain informed of AIB, USDA, Feeding America, and FAFB food safety guidelines
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and orderly facility
- Support special events such as the Letter Carrier’s Drive, Bowls of Hope, and more
- Obtain licenses and certifications necessary to safely operate all warehouse equipment
Qualifications:
- Valid FL Driver’s License and a Class A (CDL) license with at least two years of proven driving experience. Must meet underwriting requirements to drive fleet vehicles or personal vehicles for business purposes
- Capable of safely using warehouse equipment including a manual jack, power jack, forklift, and other material handling equipment
- Ability to lift, push, pull, carry objects up to 50 lbs.
- Maintain a professional and respectful appearance and demeanor at all times
- Commitment to serving vulnerable populations and ending hunger in the community
