Position Overview

The CDL Program Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the CDL training program by managing student recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts while ensuring a welcoming and supportive training environment. This position is also responsible for overseeing student progress, addressing concerns, and ensuring successful program completion. In addition, the Coordinator leads marketing and community outreach efforts, identifies partnership opportunities, and supports grant management, compliance, and reporting tasks. A key part of the role involves assisting students with job placement after program completion and following up to ensure employment retention. The Coordinator works collaboratively across various units and staff within the organization to provide holistic support for students and contribute to overall program success.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Recruitment, Retention, and Support

  • Manage student recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts, focusing on creating an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Track student attendance, monitor progress, and provide guidance to ensure successful program completion.
  • Address and resolve student concerns promptly, fostering a positive learning experience and maintaining student satisfaction.
  • Collect and maintain required documentation for compliance and recordkeeping.
  • Collaborate with other coordinators and staff across the organization, sharing resources and strategies to support the success of various programs.

2. Marketing & Community Outreach

  • Lead the program’s marketing and outreach efforts by developing materials and coordinating community engagement activities to promote the CDL program.
  • Represent LAWD at community events, job fairs, and other outreach opportunities, building the program’s visibility and attracting potential students.
  • Identify and nurture potential partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to support program growth.
  • Deliver orientations and presentations to diverse audiences, including prospective students, employers, and community groups, to raise awareness of the CDL program and its benefits.

3. Compliance, Recordkeeping & Administrative Support

  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations by maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Assist the CDL Manager and Director with collecting and organizing data for grant proposals and reporting, ensuring operational data is accurately tracked and submitted on time.
  • Provide administrative support, including maintaining program outcomes, student records, and compliance documents.

4. Employment Placement & Follow-Up

  • Assist students in securing employment upon completing the program by building relationships with local employers and supporting job placement initiatives.
  • Follow up with students post-employment to gather feedback on their experience.
  • Collect student narratives and success stories to document program impact and report outcomes to stakeholders.

5. Program and Organization Operations

  • Collaborate with various units within LAWD, providing assistance to different programs as required. This may include helping with administrative tasks, facilitating workshops, or supporting events that align with LAWD’s overall mission.
  • Coordinate with other program coordinators, administrative staff, and external partners to share resources and best practices, ensuring the efficient use of organizational assets across departments.
  • Work closely with different departments (e.g., Workforce Development, Adult Education) to connect students with additional resources and services within LAWD that will aid them in overcoming barriers to employment and personal development.
  • Support organization-wide initiatives, such as community events, outreach activities, and fundraising efforts, as part of a collaborative approach to achieving LAWD’s mission.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • A degree in education, business, transportation, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered, particularly in program coordination, adult education, operations, non-profit, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in program coordination, student services, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the CDL training industry or adult education is a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in spreadsheets and data management tools, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) programs and other data-tracking software.
  • Experience using AI platforms for efficiency and innovation in program management is a plus.
  • A demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, staying open to innovation and continuous improvement to meet evolving program needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
