Position Description

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Treasure Coast Maternity Center is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 corporation located in Stuart, Florida that leads a cooperative community effort to reduce fetal and infant mortality and improve the health and developmental outcomes of infants, childbearing women, and their families in Martin County.

Position Description: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Mom Mobile Unit. The role requires clinical and administrative skills as well as the ability to drive and operate Mom Mobile. Mom Mobile will travel to five different locations to offer prenatal care and the CMA will be responsible for driving the 38-foot mobile unit to each site. The CMA will support the midwife by assisting with patient care and administrative tasks including preparing for blood draws, taking vital signs and ensuring smooth operation of Mom Mobile.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Certified Nurse Midwife to assist with prenatal exams, clients education, and general care
  • Take vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and weight) and perform routine screenings such as urine dipsticks and glucose checks
  • Draw blood samples for routine prenatal lab work including but not limited to CBC, glucose levels, HIV and syphilis testing to be sent to Quest Diagnostics for analysis;
  • Support the midwife in ensuring proper blood collection and handling of samples for lab submission.
  • Drive the 38-foot mobile unit to five community locations for prenatal care, ensuring safe operation and timely arrival at each site
  • Ensure that the mobile unit is fully stocked, clean and ready for service at all times. This includes managing medical supplies, equipment and general upkeep of the vehicle.
  • Assist with scheduling client appointments maintaining accurate client records and handling other clerical duties as needed.
  • Assist with the promotion of services to the local community and help build trust within underserved populations.
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals including the certified midwife to ensure high-quality care is provided to all clients.
  • Adhere to all applicable healthcare regulations and protocols for client care as well as policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Review patients’ chief complaint and prepares electronic medical chart for medical providers to use during a visit.
  • Order on-site testing, labs, immunizations, referrals, authorizations and procedures per provider’s order.
  • Secure patient information and maintains patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records and other patient information according privacy policies and HIPAA standards.
  • Maintains a safe, secure and healthy work environment.
  • Conduct routine checks and maintenance of the mobile unit, ensuring the vehicle is in good working condition (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and basic vehicle functionality).
  • Follow standards and procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Report to off site location for work as needed. (Be available to travel for work)
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required; must be in good standing with the certifying body (AAMA, AMT).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical assistant preferably in an OB/GYN or prenatal care setting.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience driving large vehicles (RV, buses or mobile unit) preferred.
  • Spanish Required
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy preferred.
  • Experience with phlebotomy and lab specimen handling including sending samples to external labs (Quest Diagnostics experience preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Able to multi-task and meet tight deadlines

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge and expertise in U.S. healthcare medical terms and insurance eligibility.
  • Experience working within the U.S. healthcare industry and familiarity with insurance processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfortable using the internet for research and communication.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse patient population.
  • Strong professional communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Capable of clear and effective verbal and written communication in English and Spanish.
  • Flexible with work location and schedule, including the possibility of evenings or weekends based on business needs.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on Mom Mobile schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry medical supplies and equipment up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient movement or transfers when needed.
