Haviland Enterprises, Inc., a 100% Employee Owned, industrial chemical, plastics and pool and spa chemical manufacturing and distribution company, specializing in creative chemistry seeks a Chemist I. Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BS degree in a science related field (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, etc.) with sufficient laboratory experience required
  • 1-5 years of laboratory experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills including MS Office. ERP software experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated high commitment to safety, environment, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work both independently and with others
  • Drug screen & background check required

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct product quality control and plating bath analysis in collaboration with QC Chemists, as assigned.
  • Carefully follow testing methods to ensure accuracy, safety, and precision when testing products.
  • Collaborate with Wastewater Chemist to develop analytical procedures, perform treatability studies, accurately analyze, record, and review wastewater treatment data, and generate reports including treatment recommendations for internal wastewater operations and, occasionally, external customers.
  • Prepare and analyze wastewater samples using approved methods and create test reports.
  • Work with internal wastewater operators and plant staff to improve treatment techniques and identify areas of optimization.
  • Accurately document and communicate all test results to internal and external customers as required.
  • Ensure that laboratory instruments and equipment are kept clean and in the proper working condition.
  • Troubleshoot production issues as appropriate.
  • Serve the needs of internal customers as requested by offering assistance and responding timely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Create, collect data as assigned, document, and implement continuous improvement ideas.
  • Properly manage the generation, accumulation, and storage of hazardous waste generated within the department.
  • Dispose of retained samples as needed.
  • Support the development of a Lean culture, i.e. 5S, 8 wastes, continuous improvement, process focus, discipline to standards, and practice of the scientific method.
  • Act as an employee-owner and an ambassador of Haviland when dealing both inside and outside of the Company.
  • Maintain professional conduct and a courteous demeanor while protecting confidential information regarding customers, vendors, the Company, and its employees.
