Dear Prospective Educator,

Hodis Learning & Music is looking for kind and experienced independent contractors, ‘Educators’, to serve our growing client base and become a part of the HLM family.

We are looking for Educators who can tutor and teach the following subjects:

  • Chemistry (through AP Chem, required)
  • Biology (through AP Bio, preferred)
  • Physics (through Honors Physics, preferred)\
  • Mathematics (through AP Calculus, preferred)

As we value diverse expertise and tutoring abilities, priority will be given to those who can also tutor and teach additional subjects.

Educators must be able and willing to tutor and teach the subjects at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Priority will be given to those who can also tutor and teach at the college level.

  • HLM primarily and proudly serves South Pasadena, Pasadena, and San Marino,.
  • Educators conduct sessions in the students’ home. Some students may wish to conduct sessions via Zoom, but these students are a rarity (about 1-2% of our clientele).

Who We Are:

  • We are a cohesive family of experienced Educators that value respect, kindness, and a passion for helping and educating others.
  • The company was founded by an experienced South Pasadena tutor and music teacher as he witnessed a growing need for kind and experienced Educators during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine.

Description of Role and Responsibilities:

  • Educators communicate with families to schedule sessions.
  • Although we require Educators to commit to 10 hours/week, hours may be minimal to begin with. Educators will be given more hours as time goes on and will have the option to take on more than 10 hours. Hours will also depend on subjects the candidate offers.

  • A desire to help students achieve and succeed in their academic or artistic pursuits. Kindness and understanding and a positive, warm, and uplifting personality to help HLM students shine brighter in their academics, Music, or Arts, and beyond.
  • Ability and desire to work with students of all ages. Our youngest students are about 5 years of age.
  • At least a bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of tutoring/instruction experience. Preference is given to applicants who also scored at least 1400 on the SAT (2100 on the old test) or SAT-equivalent.
  • Local to the greater Pasadena area.
  • Ability to reliably commute to students’ homes throughout the San Gabriel Valley- primarily South Pasadena, Pasadena, Alhambra, and San Marino, and secondarily in Temple City, Arcadia, Eagle Rock, and Highland Park,
  • Academic Educators must be able to tutor multiple subjects.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Willing and able to wear a mask while teaching.
  • Ability to commit to at least 10 hours/week.
  • Ability to commit to a six-month contract. Performance will be assessed at the end of the six months before consideration of contract renewal.

What We Offer Our Educators:

  • Students and resources.
  • Top-level pay for the educational connections industry. We recognize that our Educators are some of the best in the field, and we treat them as such.
  • Dedicated support, advice, and guidance from experienced Educators.
  • Feedback and reports on Students’ assessments of sessions. In other words, we inform you regarding students’ perceptions of session effectiveness and recommendations on areas in which the Educator can improve.
  • HLM handles all billing matters and pays Educators biweekly.
  • Conflict resolution and client reassignment should issues arise.
  • In the next couple of years, we will be hiring a dedicated scheduler to take over all scheduling responsibilities for HLM and its Educators.

  • $42.00 for 60-minute sessions
  • $31.50 for 45-minute sessions
  • $21.00 for 30-minute sessions

Our Thorough and Unique Interview Process:
