Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer is a senior finance professional who plays a pivotal role in the company's growth strategy. As a key strategic advisor to the company executives, the CFO provides insightful financial analyses and actionable recommendations to drive informed business decisions. The incumbent brings high-growth consumer products business expertise, including overseas manufacturing, global financing, and accounting. They are experienced in conversions and maximization of assets, including acquisitions, divestitures, restructures, and raising capital.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute a comprehensive financial business strategy that optimizes revenue generation while effectively controlling expenses and maximizing company profitability while delivering best-in-class customer service, product quality, and consumer experience.
- Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to identify sales trends, analyze labor and material costs, and develop comprehensive company-wide annual budgets and rolling 3-year business forecasts incorporating high/low/nominal sales revenue models and corresponding expense projections in collaboration with cross-departmental business leads.
- Identify and communicate opportunities to maximize return on investment (ROI), outlining the potential trade-offs of investments across different business segments.
- Lead the Finance group, ensuring alignment with Blue Marble's mission and values and fostering a high-performing team through staff training, performance evaluations, and effective mentorship and coaching to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.
- Oversee the implementation and optimization of financial software systems to streamline accounting processes, enhance financial reporting accuracy, and improve decision-making capabilities.
- Participate in business development efforts, including negotiating contracts and developing new business opportunities to support growth objectives.
- Oversee debt and equity financing activities, strategically manage cash flow, review loan rates to minimize interest expenses, optimize financial resources, and maintain relationships with creditors.
- Manage the coordination and services of independent accountants, ensuring timely resolution of financial reporting issues and compliance with regulatory requirements and audits, federal state, and VAT filings.
- Coordinate all financial reporting activities, including organizational and divisional revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, reporting to board members, and developing and monitoring organizational and contract budgets.
- Produce monthly financial reports, including reconciliations with the 401k plan, balance sheet, profit and loss statement, fixed asset workbook, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow projections.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state tax-related filing requirements.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP and strategic financial planning.
- Experience in entertainment brand licensing, consumer products and intellectual property.
- Proven history of driving financial performance and aligning strategies with overarching business goals.
- Proficiency in complex financial forecasting and strategic financial modeling.
- Experience with oversight or consultancy relationships with operational HRIS and Legal functions.
- Strong leadership acumen with a decisive approach to driving strategic initiatives and leading change.
- Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative demeanor, fostering effective cross-functional teamwork and external partnerships.
- Advanced financial software and tools proficiency, including Business Intelligence (BI) tools, enabling insightful analysis and accurate reporting.
- Comprehensive experience in risk management, including proactive identification and mitigation of financial risks.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time.
- Comfortable understanding of federal and state income tax regulations and ability to interact with outside advisors to minimize tax costs.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to dynamic operational demands and deliver precise results.
- Strong ethical standards and commitment to compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Required Education & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; an MBA and CPA are preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance management, with at least 3 years in a CFO role or similar position, is required.
Workplace Arrangement
In-person collaboration is a key aspect of Blue Marble's work culture. This role is designated as a hybrid role, with three days a week expected at corporate headquarters in Ashland, Oregon. This arrangement allows for a balance between in-person collaboration and remote work flexibility.
