Full job description
Family Advocate
The Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass (CACBG) is a nationally accredited, non-profit organization serving 17 counties throughout Central Kentucky. The CACBG provides a child-centered, friendly and safe environment to assist in the coordination of sexual and/or physical abuse investigations for child and youth victims. At the CACBG a coordinated team of experts in medicine, law enforcement, victim advocacy, mental health and other disciplines hold offenders accountable and help children and families heal together in a seamless way ensuring no future is out of reach.
CACBG seeks a positive, energetic, talented and flexible individual to provide family advocacy services to support child victims of abuse and their caregivers. The advocate's primary responsibilities will include working with the non-offending caregiver to provide support, information, and coordinate services. This individual will also be an important part of a multidisciplinary team with law enforcement, DCBS, and community partners. The advocate will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings. The advocate will be the CACBG representative on the multidisciplinary teams responsible for relaying the family’s experiences, needs and concerns. CACBG’s family advocates are often the first point of contact for victims of child abuse and their caregivers. The focus of victim support and advocacy is to help reduce trauma for the child and family members and to improve case outcomes. Family advocates help caregivers identify and access needed services and encourage their participation in the investigation, prosecution, treatment, and supportive services for families.
The Family Advocate position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) and occasional evening/weekend hours may be required. This position is funded in whole or in part with federal, CHFS and other state funds. CACBG maintains an equal employment opportunity policy for all employees and applicants for employment. We hire, train, promote and compensate employees without regard for race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, disability, citizenship, and other classifications protected by applicable state or local laws.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or other human services field
- 2 years of human service or criminal justice experience preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of current community services available to children and families
Professionals who are interested in joining the CACBG team should submit a cover letter and resume via Indeed.com. Only qualified candidates will receive a response.
