POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Child Care Director, Decatur Family YMCA Vehicle Driver is responsible for providing safe transportation to and from program sites and ensuring safe trips for passengers.

Vehicle Driver is responsible for managing those functions in accordance with the stated mission and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of theYMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Bus Driver must have the competencies, skills and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the YMCA mission, goals and vision for serving the community. Other important responsibilities include the following:

  • Daily inspection of buses to make sure they are clean and working properly
  • Requires vision and hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly through speech and understanding of the English language.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, stoop and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, work under stressful conditions on a regular basis, and have responsibility for the health and safety of others.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License. CDL License required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Must display an aptitude for working with children ages 2 through 12 years old
  • Must know how or be willing to learn how to perform general vehicle maintenance, such as: check the vehicle’s oil level, tire pressure, antifreeze, and radiator
  • Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  • Positive role model with strong leadership, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills.
  • Complete all required trainings by their completion deadlines, including: Child Abuse Prevention, Y Orientation Training, OSHA and Blood Borne Pathogens Training, Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.

Bus Driver will be expected to drive on School Day Out and half school days. Bus drivers will also be needed for field trips. During summer camp hours may be increase. Shift may vary.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
