Job Summary:
The Children's Pastor/Director position is an exciting opportunity to oversee all aspects of our Children’s Ministry (K through 5th grade), as well as fostering relationships with the families that have children in this age group. This position will work closely with our NextGen Pastor to facilitate various programs, events, and initiatives aimed at nurturing the spiritual growth and well-being of the children within the ministry. Additional responsibilities will include: recruiting, training, developing volunteer leaders / volunteer placement, maintaining all Children’s classrooms, implementing Orange curriculum for the Children’s Ministry, as well as helping to develop new content to supplement. This role will also support other NextGen ministry areas as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively lead Sunday morning programming for children through detailed planning, organization and execution. This includes administration, hospitality/connections, volunteers, and large group and small group experiences.
- Successfully implement curriculum and content to help create a Children’s environment with robust attendance and engagement, effective assimilation of new kids/students, high volunteer retention, and growth in personal discipleship among attendees.
- Oversee the recruiting, training and placement of volunteers, coaches, and/or interns within the Children's Ministry. On a continual basis, effectively pastor and shepherd those connected to Children’s Ministry through one-on-ones, group events/appreciation, trainings, etc.
- Collaborate closely with the NextGen team and other ministries to ensure overall Children’s Ministry success within Crosswater Community Church. This includes engagement and partnership with parents and families, pouring into volunteers/leaders serving in ministry environments, and ensuring excellence in events for children and other experiences children may be involved in.
- Ensure an engaging experience for different age groups in different ministry environments, spanning from K to 5th grade.
- Contribute to the oversight or collaboration of developing small group leaders (volunteers) to equip them to effectively shepherd and pour into children.
- Collaborate with other ministry teams to ensure excellence in all components of Children’s programming (ex: worship and production teams, details, elements, scheduling, etc.) of large group programs.
- Partner with the NextGen Pastor to effectively create, manage and execute regular Summer programming options for children, such as Vacation Bible School.
- Partner with the NextGen Pastor on the Baptism and Family Dedications processes for Children, as well as family crisis management situations that may arise.
- Manage children’s volunteer teams’ expectations, training, development progress and goals, ensuring effective attraction, retention and engagement. Routinely review volunteer recruiting, development and growth procedures to ensure efficiency, productivity and quality within all volunteer groups.
- Effectively manage and execute on all administrative tasks related to the Children’s Ministry. This includes timely email and written communication, follow-up, new family assimilation, answering and directing calls about Children’s programs and activities, purchasing and inventory, trip and event coordination processes, legal forms (ex: parent release forms), Children’s calendars, grade promotions, background checks, Fellowship One database management, etc.
- Manage supply purchasing to effectively create and execute engaging Children’s environments. This includes overseeing and coordinating supplies and setup for small and/or large groups experiences each week.
- Partner with the NextGen Pastor and Crosswater Christian Academy to engage with caregivers, families, teaching staff, and children to aid in missional discipleship and spiritual growth.
- Support NextGen Pastor in church community and other outreach initiatives, including creating outreach connection and engagement opportunities for children and families. This includes partnership and engagement with schools and family events in the community.
- Provide online engagement opportunities for families that reflect the love of Jesus. This includes maintaining all Crosswater Community Church Children’s Social Media accounts and posting regularly to ensure families are connected and to provide resources and support to parents.
- Uphold the NextGen Children & Youth Protection Standards and Expectations.
- As needed, attend and supporting conferences, camps, and other special events to support the Children’s Ministry.
- Other duties as needed.
Expectations & Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent in education, experience, and training) in children’s ministry, communications, elementary education, or a related degree. Preferred but not required.
- Minimum of three years of experience working directly or serving in a high capacity within Children’s Ministry areas at a church.
- Strong understanding of the needs and development trends for children ages 0-12 years.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Scripture and biblical theology. Ability to clearly and consistently communicate the full Gospel, in both word and deed.
- Desire to continually learn: look for ways in which to keep on the cutting edge of Children’s Ministry, pursuing personal growth and healthy development mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
- Ability to lead, manage and train individual volunteers and volunteer teams.
- Ability to effectively communicate clearly and effectively (written and oral) with diverse audiences and age groups, especially children and parents.
- Experience in programming coordination, implementation, and execution in a creative environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skill with ability to effectively coordinate and schedule.
- Experience in Microsoft office programs and database management systems.
- Experience working in Planning Center and other church systems a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities for staff. This job will actively manage and coordinate volunteers.
Work environment
Active work environment. Must have ability to interact with small and large groups, including large, loud environments (worship, conferences, etc.)
Physical demands
Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift, bend, stoop, type, and operate on a computer.
Travel required
Ability to travel to conferences, camps and other special events for children. Some overnight travel may be required. Ability to travel locally and have own means of transportation.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
