Chokaico Craft Chocolate is a new, small but mighty bean-to-bar chocolate factory and retail store located in a historic old train station in Avon's Riverdale Farms Shopping Center, a gourmet destination in Farmington Valley. Through fine chocolate, we aim to create a community where everyone is welcome.

About the job

We seek an energetic and motivated individual who can wear many hats at our small factory and store to ensure that the shop runs efficiently, is kept clean, maintains a welcoming atmosphere, serves high-quality, consistent products, and provides exceptional customer service.

The right candidate will receive training in the chocolate-making process.

Days are very different in a busy and sweet-smelling chocolate shop. Some days, you sort beans nonstop; some days, you roast cacao beans; others, you make chocolate bars and truffles. Other days are full of packaging bars and truffles, packaging orders for shipping, bringing orders to the post office, running errands for supplies, etc.

Hours: 40 hours per week, including Saturday and Sunday.

Schedule: Wednesday through Sunday, 10 AM-7 PM, with Mondays and Tuesdays off.

Salary: $17 per hour plus tips.

About you

Our ideal candidate is outgoing, organized, and enjoys interacting with the diverse guests that come by our store. You take pride in perfectly stocked shelves and engaging with our guests. You love to share knowledge and excite people to come back with friends and share their newfound knowledge. As a reliable team member, your team knows they can depend upon you to uphold our standards and work collaboratively throughout the shift. Previous specialty coffee, craft food, or retail experience is a plus.

Requirements

• Knowledge of or passion for artisanal chocolate and the bean-to-bar process
• Proven experience in kitchen and retail environments preferred
• Excellent customer service orientation
• Ability to stand for long periods, read computer terminals, push, pull, or move objects of at least 25 pounds, and maneuver around the production and sales floor, including repetitive bending and prolonged standing
• Barista experience welcomed

Responsibilities

• As we finish building our store, some initial manual labor will be required to set up equipment and decorate the production and retail areas. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to set up a chocolate factory and store.
• Working with the entire chocolate-making process from bean selection to final product
• Educating customers about the bean-to-bar process and product offerings
• Helping to manage inventory of both raw materials and finished products
• Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations
• Ensuring excellent customer service
• Serving chocolate drinks and desserts and making honest recommendations for our single-origin chocolate products
• Maintaining inventory and product displays
• Pitch in during product development efforts (creating new flavor combinations!)
• Responsible for cleaning the production and retail areas at the end of the day
• Upholding the company's quality standards and brand image
