Music Coordinator Job Description
The Music Coordinator at Chebeague Community Church (CCC) is responsible for overseeing and developing the music program. This includes selecting musical pieces for services in collaboration with the Chaplain, coordinating with musicians and choir members, and ensuring that music aligns with the church’s vision of blending old favorite hymns with new selections. The aim is to unite year-round, seasonal, and island friends of all ages, faiths, and musical backgrounds to share in our vibrant church community.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Chaplain and worship team to select music for Sunday services and special events.
- Lead choirs, including recruitment, coordination, and scheduling of rehearsals.
- Provide direction to the choir during worship services, ensuring alignment with the chosen musical pieces.
- Recruit and coordinate musicians and singers for both the choir and other musical needs.
- Organize rehearsals for choir and musicians as needed to prepare for services.
- Maintain an organized list of all musicians and choir members who participate in regular and special services, and share it with the Office Administrator.
- Attend weekly Sunday worship services, ensuring that musicians and choir members feel comfortable, clear in their roles, and supported. If unable to attend a service, be responsible for organizing coverage for a fill-in coordinator as needed.
- Ensure that music selections enhance the spiritual life of the congregation, fostering an atmosphere of inclusiveness, reflection, and celebration.
- Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in adapting music programs for a variety of worship styles and congregational needs.
- Work closely with the Chaplain to ensure that music selections align with the overall worship theme and respond to the spiritual needs of the congregation.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong organizational, administrative, and leadership abilities.
- Inspirational and spirit-filled leadership, particularly in directing choirs.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Appropriate musical background, experience, or knowledge, especially in choir direction and group vocal coordination.
- Provide ongoing guidance and development opportunities for choir members, encouraging vocal growth and a sense of community within the group.
- Familiarity with audio-visual equipment, sound systems, and music software is an asset.
