Boston Youth Sanctuary Clinical Director
Boston Youth Sanctuary is an innovative, one-of-a-kind therapeutic after-school program for children between the ages of 6 and 11 who have experienced traumatic events in their lives. Join our team at our beautiful Dorchester location as the Clinical Director.
Established in 2011 to serve children in Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan who have experienced trauma, Boston Youth Sanctuary’s model serves the whole child putting equal emphasis on individual therapy, mentoring, art, dance, yoga, and expressive therapies, as well as essential and fun after-school activities like free play, homework time, and enrichment activities including cooking, gymnastics, music, and athletics. The successful candidate for Clinical Director has a passion for celebrating all children coupled with the rigor of an accomplished mental health clinician with supervisory and leadership experience.
Responsibilities
The Clinical Director should thrive in an atmosphere where all team members come together to empower our community’s most vulnerable yet promising children to feel safe, nurtured, and empowered with the life skills to succeed at school, home and in the community. The 11,000 square foot, brightly colored BYS space reflects the joyful, always innovating culture at Boston Youth Sanctuary. All team members contribute to a program that meets children, and their families, where they are through a positive, strength-based lens.
Boston Youth Sanctuary’s Clinical Director will provide clinical supervision and overall leadership for a team of clinicians and interns. BYS recruits an outstanding team of interns from Boston’s leading colleges and universities that are supervised by our Clinicians with oversight from the Clinical Director. In addition, the Clinical Director will provide individual therapy to a minimum of two BYS children.
Among the Clinical Director responsibilities will be the following:
o Overseeing and ensuring sound clinical services, including:
o Serving as the supervisor for Clinicians and interns and recommending outside training/facilitating in-house training for the team
o Reviewing treatment plans and curriculum
o Auditing clinical documentation and evaluating services
o Facilitating team meetings and supporting other BYS teams
o Conducting the initial clinical assessment for all children applying to BYS and comprehensive assessments for their custodial caregivers
o Safety screenings when needs arise
o Collecting and reporting on data for the board, funding and evaluation purposes
o Supporting Clinicians with communication with enrolled families and other providers that they are working with
o Contributing to the overall advancement of BYS as a member of the leadership team and modeling leadership and a commitment to continuing innovation and quality improvement.
Experience
The ideal Clinical Director candidate will demonstrate the following qualities and qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of post-graduate and three-years of post licensure experience, ideally as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, or similar credentials, with clinical experience with children and two years of experience in trauma preferred.
- Curiosity and professionalism, demonstrated in part through up-to-date licensures, pursuit of professional development opportunities, and preferably TF-CBT certified.
- Demonstrated, exceptional cultural competency partnering with families in our catchment area.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for an afterschool or out-of-school time setting, or other multidisciplinary approach to serving as a clinician to children.
- An interest in joining a collaborative multi-disciplinary team committed to the continued growth and development of BYS’s innovative model.
