Full job description
Position summary:
The Clinical Molecular Technician I is the entry-level position in the NxGen MDx laboratory.
Clinical Molecular Technicians are responsible for the daily specimen and reagent preparation and downstream testing, including result interpretation and quality control. Using Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), the Clinical Molecular Technician I will work as part of the laboratory team in testing, result generation, and troubleshooting issues that may occur.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Collects, prepares, manipulates and evaluates patient specimens and reagents for
analysis and approximately performs technical procedures with accuracy and precision,
meeting the standards of all accrediting/regulatory agencies.
2. Recognizes unusual patient results and identifies problems in analytical
procedures/systems; responds with appropriate investigation and/or corrective action.
3. Participates in the development of new collection procedures and techniques for
laboratory specimens.
4. Observes established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory.
5. Computes work for data analysis and reporting.
6. Conducts a mental analysis to troubleshoot problems.
7. Attends and is an active participant in laboratory meetings.
8. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for laboratory use; documents and
performs cleaning, maintenance and calibration on laboratory equipment.
9. Troubleshoots problems with laboratory equipment and involves management when
necessary.
10. Manages daily task schedule to determine efficient work flow.
11. Uses knowledge of molecular biology that underlies an assay to troubleshoot erroneous
assay results.
12. Troubleshoots small IT problems in relationship to laboratory instrument computers.
Non Essential Responsibilities:
1. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Diagnostics, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or similar.
2. Accurate small-volume liquid manipulation (pipetting).
3. Understanding of genomic databases and genetic variant information sources.
4. Understanding of operating parameters for thermocyclers, qPCR instruments, NGS
technology, fluorescent measurements, and spectrophotometer measurements.
5. Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Documents.

2. Extremely strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to translate
“technical speak” in way that end users at all levels can understand.
3. Ability to work collaboratively with others.
