Communications Intern

Jesuit Refugee Service/USA

The mission of Jesuit Refugee Service/USA (JRS/USA) is to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees and forcibly displaced persons. JRS works in more than 45 countries worldwide to meet the educational, health, psycho-social, and emergency needs of nearly 750,000 refugees and other forcibly displaced persons regardless of race, ethnic origin, or religious beliefs.

Job Description

JRS/USA’s Marketing & Communications Team seeks an energetic junior or senior in college to join us as an intern this summer and potentially into the fall. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the intern will help tell JRS’s story and the stories of refugees around the world..


Washington, DC

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor US news and commentary on refugee and migrant issues.
  • Research media targets and curate lists for targeted pitches.
  • Help develop and edit content for media, advocates, and supporters.
  • Other duties as assigned at the intersections of communications, development, outreach, and issue advocacy.


  • Major in communications, journalism, English, or related field.
  • A critical thinker with good judgment.
  • Exceptional writing and copyediting skills; detail oriented.
  • Proficiency (or at least familiarity) with various types of digital platforms, including the Microsoft and Google suites, cloud-based databases, and social media.
  • Interest in refugee issues.
  • Ability to be in our office in Washington, DC, 2-3 days per week.

Job Type: Internship

Pay: $17.50 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Washington, DC 20006
