The Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC is the largest economic development, chamber of commerce and business advocacy organization in southern Colorado. We work with industry leaders, educational institutions, military personnel, government, and community agencies and a wide array of community professionals dedicated to developing economic prosperity for our region.

The Chamber & EDC is seeking a communications manager topropel our brand's image through consistent messaging and strategy. The communications manager will liaise with local and state media to help the brand gain exposure in local and state media. The communications manager will be responsible for overseeing the development of brand collateral to developing internal and external communications and marketing strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

The Chamber & EDC is seeking a communications manager to propel our brand's image through consistent messaging and strategy. The communications manager will liaise with local and state media to help the brand gain exposure in local and state media. The communications manager will be responsible for overseeing the development of brand collateral to developing internal and external communications and marketing strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Use in-depth knowledge and experience to define public relations strategy and measurable objectives, and monitor performance
  • Proactively pitch and reactively respond to local print and broadcast media
  • Generate news releases
  • Prepare department spokespersons for media interviews, including coordinating interviews, crafting talking points, and briefing spokespersons on reporter, outlet as appropriate
  • Lead social media strategy and engagement and define key performance indicators for each channel to track level of success
  • Protect the brand by responding to negative publicity quickly and effectively, including negative social media comments
  • Responsible for production of the Chamber & EDC’s digital comms, including weekly newsletters, event promotions, and more
  • Work with Chamber & EDC peers, leadership, and councils to align communications programming with departmental or committee initiatives
  • Collaborate with community partners, as appropriate, on messaging and press releases related to joint efforts and regional projects. This includes, but is not limited to, the City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, other chambers of commerce and business organizations, and more
  • Support the creation of marketing and communications collateral to ensure that messaging is consistent with the organization's brand, including white papers, website copy, and more
  • Engage with contracted vendors to assist in the development of collateral materials, including annual reports, advertising, event branding, and more
  • Aid in the research, development, implementation, and measurement of communications and marketing programming
  • Support membership and events staff through identification of opportunities and creation of communications that contribute to membership recruitment and retention, and event promotion and participation
  • Help maintain the Chamber & EDC’s website, microsites, and social media networks through creation or curation of content and photo/video assets, as well as evaluate effectiveness via regular analyzation and reporting
  • Help procure, organize, and maintain departmental photo and video assets
  • Attend Chamber & EDC functions as required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5+ years prior experience working in a marketing or communications role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines
  • Great multitasker and capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Up to date on industry trends and able to stay ahead of the curve
  • Effective interpersonal and project management skills
  • Highly organized, pro-active, and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to change
  • Proficient with Microsoft products and WordPress
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite beneficial
  • Understanding of social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Photography and video skills and knowledge of equipment helpful
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications
