Full job description

Job Title: Community Advocate

Report to: Program Director

Hours: Part-time (30 hours per week), M-F hours TBD

Job Summary:

The Community Advocate oversees our Eviction Prevention Program, managing emergency calls and providing resources that best meet the client's needs. The Community Advocate is responsible for developing and formulating ongoing relationships with various community service providers, specifically any organization or agency that provides direct Case Management services to unhoused or precariously housed individuals and families or Asylum Seekers in our service area. The Community Advocate is responsible for maintaining current and up-to-date resources that benefit clients calling in. The Community Advocate works closely with other programs within ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative to identify resources and knowledge of the Albuquerque service provider network.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide clients requesting emergency assistance with clear and timely information, access to referrals, and direct aid that reflects their unique needs.
  • Facilitate client access to community resources, including locating emergency shelters, housing, food, clothing, school programs, and other services relevant to clients' needs.
  • Review and take client intake forms; maintain client database and files.
  • Build relationships with community service providers in the unhoused, precariously housed, and Asylum Seekers network in Albuquerque to find adequate resources for clients calling for emergency assistance.
  • Professionally represent FaithWorks at community resource events.
  • Collect, prepare, and report statistical data as required by funding sources.
  • Be highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and creative, and demonstrate excellent time management skills when managing a high volume of client calls.
  • Be a collaborative team player who shares responsibilities and supports and acknowledges colleagues’ contributions.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director or Programs Director.

Core Capacities

  • Use of office equipment such as laptop computer, copy machine, scanner, calculator, and other necessary office machinery.
  • Familiarity with software required to perform daily duties, such as Excel, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player with clients, congregations within our collaborative, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to form and maintain service provider network relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and tasks.
  • Ability to work independently in different settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or equivalent course work.
  • Knowledge and ability to learn service provider network in Albuquerque for unhoused, precariously housed individuals and families and Asylum Seekers.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to social justice issues, such as the prevention of homelessness and immigration rights.
  • Data collection, file maintenance, and reporting experience.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, trauma-informed services.
  • Knowledge and willingness to learn systemic issues that lead to experiencing homelessness, being precariously housed, or Asylum Seeking.

Other Requirements

  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license and reliable transportation and insurance.
  • Ability to navigate stairs, ramps, and uneven terrain.
  • Willingness to learn new software or use office equipment.
  • Willingness to be flexible with work schedule.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
