Community Engagement Manager: BuildUP Community School
Our School:
Founded in 2018 in Ensley, BuildUP Community School (BUCS) is a private, workforce development high school located in the Titusville community of Birmingham. The vision of BuildUP is to empower and equip youth and communities to determine their own future. At BuildUP, students are able to:

Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to fill the role of Community Engagement Manager. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and results-driven individual who possesses a deep commitment to community empowerment and educational excellence. As the Community Engagement Manager, you will play a pivotal role in promoting our school among grassroots stakeholders, fostering meaningful community partnerships, recruiting new students, and providing essential internal support to our dedicated staff throughout the academic year.
Key Responsibilities:
New Student Recruitment:
- Recruit/enroll 30-40 rising 9th and 10th grade students annually for BUCS.
- Recruit/enroll 20-30 youth aged 16-24 for the Youth BuildUp Birmingham program.
- Develop and implement student recruitment strategies to attract a diverse and talented base of students who want and need to be at BuildUP.
- Coordinate with local schools, school counselors, community centers, and youth organizations and other stakeholders to identify potential students and encourage enrollment.
- Organize, manage and participate in recruitment events to showcase the unique benefits and opportunities offered by BuildUP.
Community Outreach and Promotion:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy to increase awareness and visibility of BuildUp in Birmingham and surrounding areas.
- Forge strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and grassroots stakeholders to garner support and participation in school initiatives.
- Plan and execute outreach events, workshops, and information sessions to showcase the school's offerings and achievements.
- Participate in community events on behalf of the school among youth and community based organizations.
- Cultivate, curate and share resources and information with BuildUp students and families.
Partnership Development:
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with businesses, non-profits, and other organizations that align with the school's workforce development focus.
- Collaborate with BuildUP staff and leadership to create internship and job placement opportunities for students.
- Facilitate joint programs and initiatives that enhance the overall learning experience for students.
Operations Support:
- Work closely with school staff to understand student needs and challenges in fostering community engagement.
- Provide training and resources to staff members to enhance their ability to connect with the community.
- Act as a liaison between the school administration and external stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and collaborative approach to community engagement.
- Support student retention efforts by identifying student and family needs and cultivating and sharing resources in those areas.
- Support ops team with regular duties such as making regular attendance calls, home visits for truant students, and assist with the lunch program at Build Up and Youth Build.
- Help facilitate Parent Advisory Meetings and understand and convey the needs of existing families.
- Facilitate a summer boot camp to help students internalize the model and ultimately join the school.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Principal and/or Executive Director
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Track and analyze community engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
- Provide regular reports to school leadership on the status of community engagement initiatives and recommend adjustments as needed.
Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of Birmingham culture, history, and youth development programs and spaces
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in non-profit work, coaching, counseling, or education.
- Ability to build relationships quickly through phone, email and text
- Applicants must possess a current driver’s license and the ability to provide their own transportation to meet with students/families
- Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, employers, and community organizations.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Exhibit professionalism and integrity through excellent verbal and written communication skills, demeanor
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field (preferred)

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
