Position Summary

NJCRI is seeking a Community Outreach Worker to support the Family Support initiative within our Behavioral Health Services division. This position focuses on providing culturally competent, trauma-informed outreach and support to LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. The role includes direct client engagement, resource navigation, community outreach, advocacy, and data tracking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing, supportive services to clients and their families
  • Deliver culturally responsive and trauma-informed care to LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, healthcare providers, social service agencies, and LGBTQ+ organizations
  • Connect clients to necessary community services and assist with wraparound care planning
  • Conduct outreach to underserved communities through community events, workshops, and support groups
  • Educate families on sexual orientation, gender identity, and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Advocate for clients in schools, healthcare settings, and social service systems
  • Refer clients to NJCRI’s WOW Drop-In Center and other relevant internal programs
  • Enter client data and case notes into electronic medical records and required state systems
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity and productivity reports
  • Develop outreach materials for community distribution
  • Support the development of crisis-driven plans for clients
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with young adults and diverse communities
  • Familiarity with LGBTQ+ issues and advocacy preferred
  • Knowledge of local and statewide community resources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic records
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
