Position Overview:

As a Project Accountant within our organization, your role encompasses a diverse set of responsibilities critical to our financial management and overall success. It is crucial that you lead by example, embodying the core values of humble, hungry, and smart to foster a positive company culture and create a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities:

Monthly Reporting for Construction Projects:

  • Tracking project expenses by category.
  • Comparing project budgets to actual expenditures.
  • Identifying work performed but not billed.
  • Calculating the percentage of completion for accounting purposes.
  • Preparing documentation to support monthly loan draws.
  • Generating monthly project billings.
  • Preparing related financial reports.

Project Budget Support:

  • Modeling prospective projects, including forecasting sources and uses of funds
  • Collaborating with project managers to compile detailed project budgets.
  • Assisting in maintaining accurate budget records.
  • Performing ROI and other analyses for current and prospective projects
  • External Audit and Tax Support:
  • Gathering necessary documentation and preparing support schedules for external audit and tax firms.

Accounting Research:

  • Researching accounting issues to ensure compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Special Projects and Process Improvement:

  • Undertaking special projects aimed at enhancing financial processes and efficiency.
  • Identifying opportunities for process streamlining.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Working closely with various departments and project managers.
  • Maintaining excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Acting as a liaison between finance and other teams.

Ownership and Issue Resolution:

  • Taking ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of accurate financial data and reports.
  • Proactively identifying and communicating financial issues to the team.

Leadership and Insight:

  • Demonstrating strong leadership abilities.
  • Providing insightful contributions to financial discussions.
  • Applying a strategic mindset to see the bigger financial picture and offer valuable insights.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.

Experience:

  • Proven project accounting experience, especially in construction.
  • Analytical Skills:
  • Strong analytical abilities for project expense tracking and budget comparisons.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Experience in project modeling, detailed budget collaboration, and ROI analyses.

Audit and Tax Compliance:

  • Expertise in preparing for external audits and ensuring US GAAP compliance.

Process Improvement:

  • Involvement in special projects and identifying process streamlining opportunities.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and liaison skills.

Ownership and Timeliness:

  • Proven ability to take ownership, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

Leadership and Insight:

  • Strong leadership with values of humble, hungry, and smart.
  • Insightful contributions and strategic thinking in financial discussions.

Adaptability:

  • Willingness to take on additional tasks to support financial objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • 3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within the construction or real estate sector.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and experience with financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • CPA or CMA certification (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with Builder Trend (preferred)
