Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento provides Sacramento and Yolo County individuals and families with a springboard to secure, stable futures through affordable homeownership, home repairs, and neighborhood revitalization.

In 2021, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento impacted over 10,000 people through home build, repair, and community projects. Your Impact: Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, Construction Assistant supports the operations of the Construction Department both at the construction sites and in the office/warehouse. The Construction Assistant will work with Site Supervisors on ongoing build projects; supervising volunteers, overseeing building material procurement if necessary and directing construction related activities. There will be opportunity for the Construction Assistant to lead groups and projects individually as assigned by the Construction Manager. As needed, the Construction Assistant will assist the Construction Department with other duties that may be assigned at the discretion of the Construction Manager. These duties may include but not limited to, maintaining vacant lots, helping with material pick up and deliveries, construction warehouse organizing, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:
 Follows all safety practices per OSHA and HFHGS standards.
 Responsible for coordinating supply procurement and delivery logistics in support of construction operations when necessary.
 Independently lead construction projects and volunteers as assigned.
 Must maintain accurate records of all expenses, procurements, purchase orders, purchased equipment and labor hours for reporting to the Construction Manager and payroll.
 Ensures all necessary tools and materials are available when needed on site, for all phases of construction.
 Drives affiliate vehicles with bed size up to 16’.
 Manages volunteer engagement on site and provides all necessary skills-based training for volunteers on a daily basis. Creates a welcoming, enthusiastic, and positive worksite for all volunteers, sponsors, and homeowners.
 Follows construction best practices and achieves HFHGS Construction goals using approved processes and procedures.
 Ensures compliance with Hazardous Materials requirements relating to all materials, construction tools and equipment.
 Maintains a clean and orderly construction site, keeps onsite tool bins organized and secured from theft or damage. Works with Site Supervisors to manage the overall site safety.
 Maintains strong working relationships with Habitat staff, volunteers, and vendors. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is committed to creating and fostering a professional environment which represents the diversity of the individuals and communities which we serve.

Skills and Background:
 Leading volunteers and groups on construction sites.
 Beginner knowledge of construction processes for new homes and home repairs.
 1-2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
 A High School diploma or equivalent is required, some college is preferred.
 Proficient in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and additional computer related skills.
 Clear verbal and written communication skills are required.
 Flexible temperament, adaptable.
 Organized and attentive to details.
 Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of tasks.
 Expected to lead and effectively direct the work of others, including volunteers and AmeriCorps members.
 Is familiar with a variety of the construction field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
 Ability to be flexible and take direction from others.

Licenses, Certificates, Other Skills:
Preferred candidates will have a valid California driver’s license and meet our organization’s automobile insurability requirement. Selected certifications may be required (CPR certification, etc.) at the organization’s expense.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional construction site environment. Every attention should be paid to safety, weather preparedness, and using appropriate personal protective gear when necessary. Employee may occasionally be asked to participate in meetings or special events after regular work hours.

Work Hours:
In general, Tuesday – Saturday 7:00am – 3:30pm, with some late afternoons and evenings when necessary

Physical Requirements:
Candidate should have the ability to work in hard-hat areas, on ladders, on scaffolding, wet surfaces, uneven surfaces and with exposure to outdoor heat and cold. Candidate should have the ability to manually lift up to 75 pounds. Visual acuity and ability to hear is necessary to assure safe operations and activities on work sites and situational awareness. Candidate should have the ability to work with routine exposure to high decibel noises, such as power tools, as well as the ability to perform routine physical actions including standing, bending, lifting bulk objects; repetitive manual action/use of hand tools, driving vehicles, loading and unloading awkward or hazardous materials.
