Full job description
The Warehouse Material Handler is responsible for efficiently maintaining an accurate inventory of all tools, company equipment, and construction materials while “picking” shipment amounts for delivery to the Job Sites as directed by the Warehouse Manager.
This position collaborates closely with the Project Managers and the Warehouse Manager to ensure timely delivery of materials, maintain accurate inventory records, and contribute to the overall success of construction projects.
Key Goals:
- Maintain organization of all storage/distribution facilities for company-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Assist in the Implementation and maintenance of the tool and equipment tracking system.
- Coordinate with the Warehouse Manager for the distribution of tools, equipment, and miscellaneous materials to job sites via company vehicle.
- Provide Warehouse Manager with a list of any tools that need repair/replacement, following testing of returned tools.
- Ensure a well-organized inventory system and contribute to project success.
Responsibilities:
Initial Steps/Organization:
- Assist the Warehouse Manager in design of layout for the central storage/distribution facility.
- Assist the Warehouse Manager on the inventory of all company-owned tools and equipment, creating a master listing that is maintained on a regular basis.
Day-to-Day Operations:
- Pull materials for “kitting” consolidation of said materials to support the Construction Schedule materials based of request from the Warehouse Manager
- Pickup and deliver material between all storage facilities and job sites as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe workplace and ensure facility security during non-working hours.
- Adapt to changes in project timelines and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Maintain listing of all materials pulled and provided to the Job Sites and provide to the Warehouse Manager
Material Storage and Handling - Receiving:
- Identify storage areas for materials received at the warehouse.
- Unload and store materials, verifying type and quantity. Maintain all packing/delivery paperwork for verification of delivery if needed by Accounting.
- Notify Warehouse Manager of received materials and if there is any damage/shortage.
Material Storage and Handling - Shipping:
- Coordinate with the Warehouse Manager to ship/deliver materials to project sites.
- Load materials and update inventory quantities accordingly.
Project Closeout:
- Receive returned tools and equipment from completed projects for inventory.
- Inspect and test tools and equipment for functionality.
- Reconcile the list of missing and damaged tools with the Warehouse Manager to allow Procurement to obtain repair/replacement cost for review
- Inventory and store excess materials for future use.
Additional Requirement:
- Assist in unloading of any material shipments that are delivered directly to the Job Sites at the direction of the Warehouse Manager.
- Possession of a valid driver's license at all times is mandatory for this position.
- In case of any change in license status, the Material Handler must inform the Warehouse Manager immediately.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Experience in Warehouse or Construction Environment
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials and equipment, often up to 50 pounds or more.
- Proficiency in using inventory management software, tracking systems, and basic office software (e.g., MS Excel).
- Organizational Skills
- Attention to Detail
- Forklift Certification: Preferred
- Knowledge of Safety Procedures
- Effective Communication Skills
- Dependability
