About this Position

Left Hand Engineering seeks a talented and entrepreneurial contract-based engineer to join our Glass Factory team. At Left Hand Engineering we think outside the box to develop solutions to the problems Wisconsin manufacturing facilities face. As a Continuous Improvement Engineer, you will be boots on the ground with manufacturers helping them identify production inefficiencies and maximizing throughout using our Glass Factory approach.

Job Requirements

  • Entrepreneurial approach to work: our portfolio continues to grow at Left Hand Engineering. We are a small team that reaps big impact. You will be excited about that, and be willing and motivated to wear multiple hats throughout your work week.
  • Project management: You have experience project management experience related to manufacturing. A PMP certification or similar is not required but is a plus.
  • Growth mentality: You will be excited to grow your own portfolio of clients, set goals to improve their throughput, and help them execute. Sales shouldn’t scare you, as you will be asked to play a hand in growing your own portfolio of clients at Left Hand Engineering.
  • Strong communication skills: Step 3 of Glass Factory involves educating the team at the manufacturing company. We have excellent resources at Left Hand Engineering to support this, but you will be expected to help prepare for these presentations and lead them in some cases when the Founder is not available.
  • Engineering skills: Mechanical/Industrial Engineer is preferred. This job will require you to define process capabilities, establish quality metrics, cycle times, and process improvement.
  • Data competency: You are a data wizard. Or at least competent with numbers.
  • Flexible workstyle: Left Hand engineering prides itself on using creative and divergent thinking to solve technical problems. You should be excellent at thinking outside of the box to solve problems and will be ready to back this up with some examples from your prior work experience.
  • 3D Modeling – SolidWorks: Preferred, not required.

Role Definition

You will be the driver on the ground for the initial productivity assessment, the section of pilot program, install of equipment, and driver of continuous improvement once equipment is online.

Here are more details on what the job looks like:

Identify Production Inefficiencies: (Tier 1)

  • Work with the internal team to figure out what pieces of equipment are best monitored. Do the physical install of hardware on to equipment and get equipment connected to software.
  • Goal of Pilot Program: To prove business case for Tier 2 implementation by clearly defining current Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Implement Glass Factory Approach: (Tier 2)

  • Be the technical expertise on the shop floor to get equipment online and connected to the software.
  • Goal of Tier 2: Install and upsell to tier 3. If the tier 2 implementation is completed correctly, Left Hand Engineering will be able to assess if the internal team has the capability and motivation to utilize the system and leverage the data for true throughput gains.

Improve Throughput: (Tier 3)

  • This (customer specific) role will be a cross between engineering and entrepreneurship. Technical- in the weeds- real work needs to be done in defining process capabilities, establishing quality metrics, cycle times, process improvement.
  • The role will then transition into an industrial engineering opportunity. With monitoring procedures in place, it will be up to the CI Engineer systematically improve system so that it is capable of hitting the already established quality metrics.
  • Goal of Tier 3- to increase throughput at the manufacturing facility by 30% over the next three years.

Pay: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour
