Full job description
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for preparing meals at assigned facility using approved menus. Ability to recommend, plan and prepare substitutions as needed for specific dietary restrictions. Ensures all food preparation, handling and storage meets food safety requirements, maintains an inspection ready facility. Responsible for food ordering, and meeting food cost budgets. Maintaining kitchen and pantry inventory. Ability to scale recipes as needed to meet census of facility. Ensure all applicable sanitation, health and hygiene standards are met, following all regulatory requirements. Provide direct care staff and clients with instruction and guidance as needed in food preparation at assigned facility. Willing to share meal prep/cooking skills and knowledge with clients and supervise clients with assigned kitchen chores.
STATUS: Part-time (weekends)
Essential Functions:
- Treat all individuals with respect.
- Establish rapport by demonstrating and maintaining clear, consistent, appropriate, and therapeutic boundaries.
- Model a positive attitude, company values, a professional demeanor and demonstrated respect with clients, staff, community partners, visitors and vendors
- Recognize individual dietary restrictions that may be based on medical needs, and religious or cultural practices. Provide nutritious substitutions.
- Establish inventory management for stock supply “on hand” and emergency food supplies
- Plan food orders based on established menus, and client census
- Occasional local/area shopping to fill pantry around food deliveries
- Comply with Food Services Program reporting requirements and regulations.
- Perform periodic inspections of all food service equipment; ensure the safe operation and/or replacement of equipment as necessary. Train staff as needed on safe operations of equipment
- Responsible for maintaining a safe, and clean kitchen environment
- Coordinate with Manager to ensure all required health and safety inspections are scheduled, documented and filed as needed
- Assist in planning food/cooking life skills training for adult clients
- Consistent adherence to all agency policies and protocol
- Perform all work tasks in a proper and safe manner per established policies and procedures
- Comply with all federal, state and agency health and safety reporting requirements.
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- Minimum two years food service industry
- Basic understanding of nutrition and concept of balanced, varied meals.
- Understanding of portion size, nutrition, caloric requirements for adults and/or children in assigned facility
- Must possess knowledge of all applicable food handling, safety and health regulations
- Ability to plan efficient use of bulk supplies, and minimize food waste
Education/Licensure/Certification requirement:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Oregon Driver’s license with clear driving record
- Obtain and maintain current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and Food Handlers Card.
- Approved background check and pass a drug screen.
