Job Summary

Job Type: Full-time - 8 hour shift - Typically M-F

The WCA is seeking an engaging, compassionate, energetic, detail oriented, highly organized individual for the crucial role of providing advocacy to support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, harrassment and stalking. The advocate’s primary function will be to assist petitioners of protection orders in filing their orders, accompanying them to court and aiding them through the protection order process. Advocates will also provide individualized safety planning, information on civil court proceedings including divorce and custody, and provide referrals to various legal agencies and community resources

Also takes an active role in the Civil legal process conducting Protection Order Orientations, aiding petitioners through the protection order process, connecting petitioners and other WCA clients to appropriate legal/community resources, documentation protection order cases. Works with petitioners on developing viable safety planning skills and completing referrals to legal service agencies.

May be necessary to work holiday shifts for coverage.

The successful candidate will:

  • Ability to manage responsibly work and demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking skills under pressure and adhere to confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients at all times.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a solution-oriented manner with co-workers, clients and supervisor.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work independently in WCA and at off-site locations (courts).
  • Training for Basic level Advocate as established by the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance.
  • Pass criminal background check as required by Health & Welfare.
  • Possess excellent good written, verbal, and record keeping skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Possess good understanding of the impact of domestic and sexual violence. Ability to handle stressful situations, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Must be able to meet at different locations other than main assigned work location to attend off-site meetings/conferences/events as well as visiting various WCA properties. If choosing to use a vehicle for transport must possess/provide a valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance at the level required by the State of Idaho. Able to arrive at the courthouse within 10 minutes when called to court.
