Position Summary
ARC is seeking a Credible Messenger to provide holistic, individualized, focused reentry services to both youth and adults returning to their communities from an in-custody, fire-training program in Growlersburg, California. This is an onsite, in-person position. The Credible Messenger will utilize their lived experience within the Juvenile Justice and/or Criminal Justice systems to relate to incarcerated individuals and build trusting relationships to help them develop their reentry and rehabilitation plans and access resources in the community. They will also play a critical role in bringing hope and opportunities to incarcerated individuals and prepare them for their continued relationship with ARC upon release.
Being formerly incarcerated is considered a valued asset in this position, along with passion and commitment to social justice reform. This position will interact with governmental agencies, ARC staff, as well as community organizations.

Essential Job Functions
- Provide an innovative approach to restorative justice that relies on unique relationships with incarcerated individuals through effective communication, listening, and conflict mediation skills.
- Model positive behavior in conjunction with staff and provide encouragement and support during challenging and stressful situations while equipping them with the tools and skills they need to be successful.
- Work with both youth and adults on an individual basis and in group settings to assist them in modifying and changing their behaviors by connecting with them through shared life experiences and challenges.
- Guide and motivate at-risk individuals to challenge and transform negative thinking, attitudes, and actions while promoting restorative justice, family involvement, community engagement, and supporting a re-integration plan to help them transition back to their communities.
- Attend staff meetings, organizational trainings, stakeholder events as required.
- Perform all other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- 1 year of documented experience as a credible messenger counseling/working in a facility, community organization, or treatment center working with incarcerated individuals and at-risk populations.
- Experience facilitating individual and group sessions; assisting, guiding, and monitoring clients over time, promoting and encouraging their overall treatment progress; addressing anti-social and at-risk behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must pass a CDCR background check.
- Be able to work a flexible schedule. Hours are subject to change based on program needs.
The Credible Messenger will have the following experience and attributes:
- Have been previously incarcerated in an institutional setting or at-risk program in the community.
- Have excellent people and communication skills, with experience in collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Have strong and effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Have personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to ARC’s mission.
Salary/Benefits
- Pay range is $24.04-$27.00 per hour.
