Overview

Position Title: Custodian (Full-Time – Evening)
Location: Faith Christian Academy | Wausau, Wisconsin
Reports To: Facilities Manager / Head of School
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, (Additional hours for events or athletics as needed)

Position Summary

Faith Christian Academy, an accredited member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and participant in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP), is seeking a dependable and service-minded Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus.

This role is essential to preparing the school for the next day’s learning while also supporting after-school athletics, events, and facility use.

Mission Alignment

All employees of Faith Christian Academy serve as ministers of the school’s mission and are expected to actively support its Statement of Faith, core values, and Christ-centered educational philosophy.

Essential Responsibilities

Custodial Duties

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, locker rooms, and common areas
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors (including periodic waxing/stripping)
• Empty trash and recycling; maintain waste disposal areas
• Restock custodial and restroom supplies
• Perform light maintenance tasks (bulb replacement, minor repairs)
• Identify and report facility or safety concerns

Athletics & Event Support

• Assist with setup and teardown of gymnasiums, classrooms, and event spaces (chairs, tables, equipment)
• Support athletic practices and games, including locker room cleaning and facility readiness
• Provide clean-up after events, including evenings or occasional extended hours
• Ensure facilities are secure, orderly, and reset for next-day use
• Coordinate with staff for event schedules and facility needs

Exterior & Seasonal Duties

• Maintain entrances, sidewalks, and high-traffic outdoor areas
• Assist with snow removal and ice control as needed for evening safety
• Ensure safe access for events and after-school activities

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work consistent hours
• Ability to perform physical labor (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods)
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals
• Strong reliability, work ethic, and attention to detail
• Commitment to supporting the school’s Christian mission and values

Preferred

• Previous custodial or janitorial experience
• Experience supporting events or athletics
• Familiarity with school, church, or nonprofit environments
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly Pay Range: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour (depending on experience)

At-Will Employment (Wisconsin)

This position is at-will, meaning employment may be terminated by either the employee or the school at any time, with or without cause or notice, consistent with applicable law.
