Children’s Dance Theater, with three locations (Auburn, Federal Way & Maple Valley) is looking for a highly organized, reliable and cheerful person to join our team as a dance teacher. We are currently looking for a multi styled teacher that can teach acro, jazz, beginning tap and hip hop. More classes and opportunities are available, and priority will be given to a well-rounded teacher. Candidates must have extensive prior dance training and teaching experience. Must enjoy being around children and working in a bustling environment.

Job Summary

Plan, lead an exceptional dance class in the appropriate style to industry standards. Instructors must maintain a positive classroom environment that contributes to the studio’s founding value of age appropriate choreography, costumes and music. All teachers must implement safe teaching techniques and expectations when working with students and help them to achieve the studio's syllabus expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable of the studio syllabus
  • Plan lessons in accordance with the overall studio syllabus
  • Enforce dress code in a professional and kind manner
  • Select an appropriate costume for the June performance
  • Select an appropriate song for the June performance
  • Choreograph for the June performance
  • Rehearse within class time for the June performance
  • Tidy up the studio at the end of the night
  • Make yourself available for subbing within the studio
  • Make yourself available for the annual dress rehearsals & performances

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive previous dance training at a high level for a minimum of 5 years
  • Working knowledge and ability to teach dance to all ages, levels and abilities
  • Ability to motivate and coach young students to perform and achieve results
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, planning and customer service skills
  • Availability to work ALL scheduled classes, rehearsals and performance. Including evenings and weekends (if needed)
  • Demonstrate kindness with students, colleagues and parents
  • Maintain our positive atmosphere
  • Represent the studio as a brand ambassador

Physical Requirements

  • Access to a reliable source of transportation
  • Requires standing for long periods of time
  • Able to make visual and auditory evaluation of student work and performance
  • Physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency
  • Lift a minimum of 40 pounds
  • Work indoors or outdoors
  • Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children

Job Type: Part Time

Pay: $25-45 per hour, DOE
